Just last month, Shadow and Act's own Tambay spoke with actor/activist Danny Glover about the possibility of Glover bringing to fruition his idea for a film based upon the life and exploits of Haitian revolutionist Toussaint L'Ouverture. Glover discussed the difficulty that came with such subject matter, saying, "You don’t want to hear those stories man… the stories I could write a book on… just on the process of trying to make a film about the Haitian revolution; but the project is still alive." Knowing what we do about Hollywood, there's no surprise there.

No surprise that the Shrek spin-off Puss in Boots was No.1 this weekend. Arguably the most popular character from those films, it was bound to have a genuine appeal to filmmgoers. Can you imagine a film about Donkey? Right, see my point? You wouldn't want to see it either.

During its first few seasons was there a show as funny and as groundbreaking as In Living Color? Yeah I thought not. It was one of those few rare shows that you HAD to watch every week or else you were left out. The kind of show had to watch to see just what kind of inspired outrageous lunacy that they would come up with yet.

I caught a screening of David Cronenberg’s A Dangerous Method last night at the Fort Lauderdale International Film Festival. Going in, I tried not to have high expectations. Although I’ve read many mixed/partial reviews to the film; surprisingly, it currently holds an 81% rating at Rotten Tomatoes. Tambay posted a review of the film earlier this month; you can find it HERE.

News on the march..... definitely something I'll be keeping an eye on, and reporting as things develop. It immediately reminded me of the Spanish/Al-Jazeera co-production forum we reported on earlier this year in which 10 African filmmakers were to pitch their new film projects to Spanish film producers and TV commissioning editors including representatives of Al-Jazeera Documentary Channel - an event that took place as part of the Tarifa African Film Festival in Spain, in June.

Aldis Hodge from TNT's serial crime drama Leverage has joined the cast of what is described as an "eco-terrorist" thriller titled The East, which will be directed by Zal Batmanglij (his second feature film effort; his first being Sound Of My Voice, a Sundance 2011 entry that was picked up by Fox Searchlight earlier this year, though it hasn't been released yet). The East, which is currently shooting in Louisiana, centers around "a contract worker who infiltrates an anarchist group, known as The East, and finds herself falling for its leader."

It's been over a year since I saw Venus Noire (Black Venus) at the New York Film Festival in the fall of 2010, and it never received a stateside release; actually I'm not sure it got much of a release outside of the international film festival circuit and a few European territories.
