The creators of The Book of Mormon - the Tony Award-winning Broadway musical that centers on two young Mormon missionaries who are sent off to spread the word in Uganda, hoping to convert more than a few Africans, and which features a significant black cast - say they plan to adapt the stage work for the big screen, as a feature film.

The new play from NAACP award winner Layon Gray, All American Girls: A Negro League of Their Own is a drama set during World War II, a time where women were called upon "to keep baseball alive." The off-Broadway play, beginning shows on October 5th (Wednesday and Thursday nights) at the Actor's Temple Theater in NYC, stars Alaina Dunn, Azariah Gunn, Jillian Walker, Kris Sidberry, Latonia P, Antoinette Henry, Celestine Rae, Noelle LuSane, Teniece Divya Johnson and Kimberlee Monroe.

BET is really stepping up on the original series front, as they said they would; most recently was last week's announcement of an original film titled Gun Hill, written and directed by Reggie "Rock" Bythewood, which will star Larenz Tate, Tawny Cypress, and Aisha Hinds.

Whoa! This is certainly an interesting development. A TV drama series based on Walter Mosley's fictional African American private investigator Ezekiel “Easy” Rawlins. Not a film, but a TV series.
