Rise of the Planet of the Apes was No.1 this weekend; but, maybe not surprisingly, The Help came in a strong No.2, doing much better than projected. The film, which opened on Wednesday, has pulled in over $35 million. That's a solid opening for the very modestly-budgeted $25 million film, and it looks like it's well on it's way to make 90 million or more.

I told myself that I wouldn't let the 1-year anniversary of Abbey Lincoln's death pass without me saying a few words about it. So when I fell ill this past Friday morning and ended up in the ICU of D.C.'s Sibley Memorial Hospital, I was understandably miffed. Well, thank goodness for laptops and free hospital Wi-Fi.

You remember Jimmy McMillan don't you? That guy with that spectaular moustache-sideburns-beard CGI special effect created combo on his face who had his 15....more like 12 minutes of fame during the 2010 New York gubernatorial race? (Personally if I lived in New York, he would have had my vote because I love to mock the system...)

It's the path of least resistance... I don't want to be a dude like Stanley Kubrick, pop out every five or six years... They know I can make comedies work, so that's what they want. It's not like you go to McDonald's and ask for a taco... It's not easy.. they want comedies. And if they do a drama, it won't deal with race issues, it will deal with family issues, like Precious.
