The search for the next Hollywood star is on, and it starts in Motherland-Africa. The new television reality show, ‘Search for Africa’s Next Hollywood Star’, according to its organisers, is to recruit acting talent in West Africa for Hollywood. Performers will be selected from Ghana and Nigeria. The TV show is organised by The Latin Dance Company, Nigeria, and their Ghanaian collaborators, Davis Media and Paradise Entertainment. Acting coach, Tracey Moore, and film producer and director, Samad Davis, both from the USA, will work closely with the contestants. The competition will see five Nigerians and five Ghanaians vie for the star prize, which includes a one year contract with a Hollywood agent and an opportunity to star alongside African American actor, Morris Chestnut, in a movie project by Davis.

On any other weekend an opening of $53 million, which is what The Green Lantern did, making it No. 1, would be great news. However, not in this case. With a production cost, including marketing, of $300 million , according to the New York Times recently, that's not good enough.

I'm sure a lot of you are familiar with the group; the director may not be a household name yet, but we've talked about him and his work a few times on this site. His feature film debut, Restless City, was one of my Sundance 2011 highlights.

Despite the article I linked to in a post a couple of days ago that lamented the lack of work for black British actors in the UK, and their emigration to the USA in order to find work, Sophie Okonedo is one of those near-universally acclaimed back British actresses who has been noticeably absent from our screens, both big and small, in recent years.

The film isn't out for another year, but we've already got a viral marketing campaign going, and now, a teaser trailer, which appears in front of prints of Green Lantern, in theaters this weekend. This is a bootleg version, so you know how that goes... or it could very well be a fake (h/t The Playlist):
