One day in the year 2026 there will be a entire week during which Tyler Perry will NOT be mentioned on Shadow and Act. We're constantly getting comments from readers on why we do. Simple. The fact is that as long as he makes news we have to cover it, so here is this week's first item.

Known primarily as a B-movie maestro, Roger Corman took a rather serious look at racial integration in the South, in a film that starred a very young William Shatner, early in his career, before Star Trek fame.

Will Black Folk Complain If Viola Davis Wins An Oscar?

So according to industry insiders and Oscar procrastinators, there are three actresses right now who are, for sure, a lock to get an Oscar nomination for Best Actress next year -. Michelle Williams for playing Marilyn Monroe in My Week with Marilyn, Meryl Streep for her performance as Margret Thatcher in The Iron Lady (though advance reviews for the film have not been good, calling it "dull" and a total softball whitewash job about one of the most divisive politicans in recent British history), and Viola Davis for The Help. And what people are saying is that it's Davis' Oscar to lose; that you can bet the farm she's going to get it, not only for her performance, but also because she's been in the busniess for a long time, doing consistently solid work, and has paid her dues.

It debuted on TBS on Friday, the 25th, just after Thanksgiving; anybody watch? I didn't, so no comments from me on Tyler Perry's new TV series For Better Or Worse which is based on his Why Did I Get Married? films (at first plays), and follows the ups-and-downs of married life for Marcus and Angela, characters who originated in the features.

Despite all the wonderful buzz around The Muppets, it couldn't trump the box office behemoth that is the Twilight saga, which stayed on top on the charts this week, taking in another $42 million (in its second week), bringing its cume to a whopping $221+ million. Throw in the $152+ million it's made overseas, and Breaking Dawn Part 1 has grossed over $374 million across the globe... and I still haven't seen a single installment from the uber-successfull franchise; Not a single minute; I just can't bring myself to watch any of them, even for free. But my dollars obviously aren't having any effect; this is one of the highest grossing franchises in film history.
