Season 2 of Idris Elba's critically-acclaimed BBC drama series Luther has officially ended (it aired in the UK earlier this year, and in the US earlier this month), with just 4 episodes. That's it. Just 4 measly episodes, unlike last season's 6, leaving fans still hungry for more of the *mental* detective.

Although adopted and enforced by white supremacists at the beginning of the 20th century in Tennessee, the 'one drop of black blood rule' seems to prevail in today's society. In many instances, the old-fashioned rule is the determining factor IMO (is it?) in racially identifying who is black and who isn't, especially in the United States.

Independence Day director Ronald Emmerich has reportedly finished penning the screenplay for the alien invasion thiller's sequel. The 1996 blockbuster, along Will Smith, starred Vivica A. Fox, Jeff Goldblum and Bill Pullman. According to The Lantern, who spoke to Emmerich Monday night, the director is trying to reunite most of the original cast for Independence Day 2.

Thinking further about Quentin Tarantino's Django Unchained and Inglorious Basterds... also, with Halloween just around the corner... I’d like to see some famous black literary characters given similar revisionist film narratives, or fantastical mash-ups like Seth Grahame-Smith’s Abraham Lincoln, Vampire Hunter, to name one.
