Not many people saw The Heart Specialist since it sort of came and went in a flash with very little publicity. However, you now have chance to see it since it will be released on DVD (both standard and Blu-ray) on October 4th through Fox Home Video.

You know I'm getting the feeling that Dee Rees' Pariah is going to be THE Black film of 2011. Of course there are A LOT of black films out there, but you know what I mean. The one that is going to get everyone talking and debating about (and hopefully get people frothing at the mouth and into violent fist fights says Sergio, rubbing his hands with glee).

The Bet Networks annoucement was just released today. Gun Hill, written and directed by Reggie "Rock" Bythewood, will star Larenz Tate, Tawny Cypress (Heroes, Rescue Me) and Aisha Hinds (True Blood, Hawthorne).

Here's a film we briefly touched on at the old S&A site. Called Soka Afrika, the documentary takes a look at the popular sport of football (soccer) via the contrasting tales of two boys. It will screen at the Raindance Film Festival in the UK on October 9th.

Today in history... September 7, 1997... Congo/Zaire (now the Democratic Republic of the Congo) dictator, Mobutu Sese Seko, died in exile in Morocco, from prostate cancer.
