As reported yesterday, Hurricane Irene, which turned out to be something of an underperformer as far as hurricanes go, still was a major factor in bringing down box office totals this weekend. Still Colombiana did well enough to come in at No.2 with $10.3 million. I'm guessimating that the film could have made another $2 - 4 million if it weren't for Irene.

It's pretty obvious that Hurricane Irene (which is battering the East Coast at the very moment, from North Carolina to Cape Cod) is going to have a huge effect on this weekend's box office numbers. Some are predicting that studios and distribtutors will lose as much as $30 million because of the storm.

I suspected as much, given how late in the year Focus Features plans to release the film, despite its Sundance Film Festival debut in January, 8 months ago. And it's obviously definitely a good look for the film (Pariah), its director (Dee Rees) and star (Adepero Oduye).

Actress Nicole Beharie, 26, is a fan of Sci-Fi, especially Octavia Butler novels; which she wishes would be adapted to the screen. Beharie is “like in love” with Whoopi Goldberg, and she’s also fervent in professing the respect and admiration for the performances of Viola Davis and Octavia Spencer in the controversial film The Help, in theaters now. Would she like to eventually follow the footsteps of Viola Davis and produce her own films? The answer of this wise beyond-her-years talented actor was the most certain and resounding one of this nonetheless candid phone interview, which lasted over an hour, “DEFINITELY, definitely.”

Despite the fact that he's a reigning two-time NBA scoring champ, with a strong following in the basketball world, Oklahoma City Thunder star Kevin Durant is not the first name that comes to mind when most casual fans think of superstar players. That could soon change, with word that Durant is likely to sign on to star in a yet-to-be-named Warner Brothers Pictures film. Film production is expected to begin in mid-September, with a shooting location having been narrowed down to either Oklahoma City or Baton Rouge, LA.
