ABC Family Cancels Raven Symone's "State Of Georgia"

How did this past by us? Oh well you can't be everywhere all the time, but last Friday ABC Family announced it that was cancelling Raven Symone's new series State of Georgia, which ran this past summer, due to poor ratings. According to the sources the show, about a struggling actress with a huge ego who moves to New York to jump start her career, drew less then half of the viewers than her previous hit for the network That's So Raven.

Reuiniting for the first time after Devil In A Blue Dress, Don Cheadle joins Denzel Washington in the sky-set thriller Flight, directed by Robert Zemeckis (Castaway, Back To The Future, Forest Gump) and written by Jon Gatings.

This is another official selection of the 2011 Heartlant Film Festival (Oct 14-22). The Country Club, directed by Jace Freeman and produced by The Moving Picture Boys, "follows one 12-year old boy struggling to find hope despite heavy rains, instability, and a future unknown."

Steve Martin, who, of course, has hosted the Oscar Awards program a few times in the past, and who has been one of the better hosts, has written an open letter on his website to Eddie Murphy offering him some sage advice for his upcoming Oscar hosting gig.

The film Documentary Sarabah will be featured at the 2011 Heartland Film Festival, which runs from Oct 13th through Oct 22nd. The 60-min documentary by Gloria Bremer and Maria Luisa Gambale centers around Senegalese rapper/singer/activist Fatou Mandiang Diatta AKA Sister Fa and her music and activism against "Female Genital Cutting" of girls in Senegal.

Smashed, a remake of the Blake Edwards 1962 classic Days of Wine and Roses, will be directed by James Ponsoldt based on a script co-written by him and Susan Burke. Mary Elizabeth Winstead and Aaron Paul are set to star as a married couple of alcoholics, whose relationship goes on the rocks when she becomes sober.

According to BlackFilm.com, Derek Luke has joined the cast of the Sparkle 1976 Remake, written/produced by Mara Brock Akil and directed/produced by Salim Akil. Luke will portray Stix, played in the original film by Philip Michael Thomas.
