This is one of a few future projects that I'm genuinely excited about... the big screen adaptation of David Mitchell's challenging tome Cloud Atlas, which is being written and co-directed by Tom Tykwer (Run Lola Run), and The Wachowskis, with Halle Berry, Tom Hanks, Hugo Weaving, Susan Sarandon, Ben Whishaw and Jim Broadbent confirmed in starring roles.

It shouldn't be any surprised that cartoons from the 30's through the early 50's were loaded with all types and variations of offensive racist images and stereotypes. To compile a list of every single cartoon from that era with stereotyped black images would reach from here to the moon. And back. That sort of humor was par for the course in cartoons made back then, by major studios such as MGM (some jokes in MGM cartoons of the period are so viciously racist that they stun the imagination even today), Walt Disney, Warner Bros, Universal and independent producers as well.

The Help jumped to this weekend's No. 1 slot, which will either make some people happy and others not so happy. The question now is how far past the $100 million mark will it go.

Things must be really desperate at the Oprah Winfrey Network. In a last ditch effort to get viewers, OWN has been forced to create a black show for the network (and NO The Gayle King Show and the The Best of the Gayle King Show don't count). I'm refering to their new reality show Sweetie Pie's. I guess that reality show with The Judds wasn't quite making it.

I understand. You'll still missing S. Epatha Merkerson as Lt Van Buren on Law & Order. Life just hasn't been the same since Jesse Martin left. And there are some who feel that the show seriously lost its groove after Richard Brooks was taken off after the second season.

Despite musical theater god Stephen Sondheim's majestic smack-down of this new revival, for what he feels are extreme reworkings of the original work (read his New York Times op-ed HERE), the show apparently still will go on...
