Interesting conversation between August Wilson and Bill Moyers from 1988 (thanks Bev Smith for the link); Wilson's name is one that's come up a number of times on S&A. His controversial I Want A Black Director op-ed from about 20 years ago immediately comes to mind. I think I've shared that here two or three times, given the subject matter and our interests.

Family/wedding dramedy Jumping The Broom hits the home video market (DVD & Blu-ray) today, so, if you didn't catch it in theaters, you can give it a go as a rental or purchase.

I saw a movie called, THE HELP that opens this Friday. I must say, I really enjoyed it! I love looking back and seeing how far we've come. And the performances in this film are stellar. Ms. Cicely Tyson was exceptionally Cicely. Viola Davis, this woman is remarkable. Octavia Spencer, she was like watching joy rise on the screen. You know I don't recommend a lot of movies, so this one has to be special, right? Well it is! Go see it if you can this weekend. THE HELP! I really enjoyed it.

Anyone been keeping up with documentary filmmaker Angela Tucker's Black Folk Don't documentary web series? We profiled it a couple of weeks ago, before its premiere, and, well, it's premiered... now on episode 2 titled Black Folk Don't: Go to Therapy.

It's a tune we're familiar with hearing at S&A...Actor or actress can't find work or they're unhappy with what's being offered so they create their own films. Actor Ty Hodges is now a part of that special club and boldly hopes to carve his own new genre of films.
