Word on the street (from articles I read on both Deadline and The Hollywood Reporter) this morning are that, thanks to it explicit depictions of the symptoms of sexual addiction - including "male and female full-frontal nudity, graphic depictions of straight/gay/threeway sex, masturbation, urination and a gruesome suicide attempt," as THR puts it, Steve McQueen's sophomore feature directorial effort Shame, which stars Michael Fassbender, Carey Mulligan and Nicole Beharie, is guaranteed an "NC-17" rating here in the USA.

We totally missed this one in our highlighting of titles screening at the Toronto International Film Festival as well as the Venice Film Festival (it's at both festivals); one of a handful of films that explore some angle of the African immigrant's experience in Europe, to put it broadly. And if the below clip (the film's opening sequence), along with the film's synopsis are of any indication, this is one that's primed for controversy.

Premiering at the Toronto International Film Festival on September 11th, Lucky, is a South African film written and directed by Avie Luthra. The drama centers about a 10-year old AIDS orphan boy named Lucky who leaves his Zulu Village after losing his mother, and finds refuge with an elderly Indian woman.
