As announced a year or so ago, the pint-sized Senegalese hero Kirikou is returning for yet another animated adventure titled Kirikou et les hommes et les femmes (Kirikou And The Men And Women) - this, however, will be the first film in the franchise to be produced in stereoscopic 3D, a format French director Michel Ocelot used for the first time on Tales of the Night (2011).

A new black film festival has been born in Philly, for all our readers in that part of the USA (and I know there are many of you); and I must say that, despite this being its first year, looking over the list of films in its lineup, I'm impressed by the selection.

Following their June acquisition of Senegalese filmmaker Khady Syllla's The Silent Monologue/Le Monologue de la Muette, co-directed with Charlie Van Damme (a 45-minute analysis of the life of maids in Senegal), comes the annnouncement that ArtMattan Productions has also now added Malawian filmmaker C. Shemu Joyah's debut feature, Seasons of a Life, to their already impressive library of films from continental Africa (photo above is of the filmmaker).

I first met Jamie Nieto at a youth track and field camp I helped to organize in 2009. I was trying to bring the 2016 Olympic Games to Chicago, and we invited six elite level athletes to teach kids the basics of track & field. When Jamie introduced himself to the kids, he said he had two goals in life--to star in a feature film movie and to make the Olympic podium for the High Jump.
