Black Girl is a 1972 film directed by former actor, playwright and social activist Ossie Davis. The film is based on the off-Broadway successful play, Black Girl, by J. E. Franklin and tells the story of young girl's desire to become a dancer despite being a high school dropout and facing ridicule from her half-sisters.

The film is called Reversion; directed by Mia Trachinger, it actually debuted 3 years ago, at the 2008 Sundance Film Festival, never was acquired for distribution thanks to its low-budget, seemingly genre-bending oddities, and continued to play the festival circuit all over the world, for the next 3 years, hoping to build support for it I suppose.

It opens in the USA on August 26th, though the French will get to see it a month earlier, when it'll open in theaters in that country on July 27th.

Filmmaker Ed DuRante, whom long time readers of this site would be familiar with (6 Things I Never Told You, Jake Gets Paid) has been furtively working on a musical adaptation of Anthony Burgess' 1962 dystopian masterwork A Clockwork Orange, the basis of revered auteur Stanley Kubrick's 1971 film of the same title, starring Malcolm McDowell.

In a move to make herself more "hands on" and involved with her rating challenged cable network, Oprah Winfrey announced today that she will become the permanent CEO and chief creative officer of OWN.
