Netflix Picks: "Prince of Broadway" is A Diamond in The Rough, An Urban Indie Gem

Unless you are a close follower of the festival indie circuit scene, you may have probably missed this wonder of a little film. Sean Baker’s Prince of Broadway, the low-budget critically acclaimed 2008 indie, has been available on DVD/VOD since last October, and is now streaming on Netflix. It's a film released prior to S&A's conception, but which we've profiled in the past.

As we all know by now, announced earlier this week, Spike Lee's hotly-debated independently-produced and financed Red Hook Summer will be released this summer, August 10th, courtesy of privately held, full service theatrical distribution and consulting company, Variance Films.

If I recall correctly, her name was one of the few mentioned in our post alerting you to the petition that called for the recasting of the role Thandie Newton has been selected to play in the film adaptation; well, she won't be replacing Thandie Newton, however, Genevieve Nnaji (maybe the most internationally well-known Nollywood actress), has been cast in director Biyi Bandele's big screen adaptation of Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie's novel Half Of A Yellow Sun.

The project he refers to in the video clip below is titled The Apocalypse and already stars himself (James Franco), Seth Rogen, Jonah Hill, Aziz Ansari and Craig Robinson; each of them will be playing themselves in the movie. In it, while attending a party at James Franco's house, along with many other celebrities, the apocalypse begins.
