The 2012 Atlanta Film Festival gets underway tomorrow and we've already profiled a few of the festival selections such as The Last Fall, My Last Day Without You, Lucky, I Want My Name Back, The Invader and Welcome To Pinehill.  Another interesting film screening at the fest is the revealing documentary AKA Blondie, a film examining the life of middle-aged stripper, and an Atlanta icon,  Anita Rae Strange.

I announced Zoe Saldana's attachment to play Christian Bale's ex-wife in the drama Out of the Furnace last month. Now, thanks to a heads up from the playlist, it looks like Forest Whitaker is in negotiations for a supporting turn in the Scott Cooper-helmed film.

In the never ending discussion about black images in the media, legendary entertainer Ben Veeren isn't exactly a happy man. In a recent lecture about race, politics and the status of African-Americans in Hollywood given at Aaron Davis Hall at Harlem City College of New York, Vereen said that reality TV is "the new blackface making us look like buffoons".

Winner of the Midnighters Award at this year's SXSW Film Festival, and a film we've profiled several times before due to the supporting turn of Brit actress Wunmi Mosaku (I am slave), the horror film Citadel will be distributed by Cinedigm Entertainment Group and New Video. Cinedigm will handle its theatrical release starting this fall, and New Video will manage the on-demand, digital and DVD/Blu-ray in the beginning of 2013.

Jennifer Beals will join Paula Marsha and John Corbett in the CBS drama pilot Widow Detective, directed by Davis Guggenheim. Beals will play Lainey, a "sexy, wry-humored" hair salon owner in the San Francisco valley who loses her LAPD husband on the job. Corbett will play Denny Brennan, a detective whose three partners die while on duty, Lainey's husband being one of them.

Michael K. Williams has signed on to star as Ol' Dirty Bastard, but not in a biopic on the late rapper's life (one has long been rumored to be coming); rather as a character in some other person's story.
