So I'm sitting in my office flipping through Netflix, as I usually do, looking for something to watch while I work, and I came across this 2008 hip-hop musical titled Rome And Jewel (inspired by Romeo & Juliet), starring Nate Parker as Rome; part of the conflict with this love story is that Juliet is white.

This is independent filmmaking folks, where money is limited, budgets are anywhere from zero- to low-budget, so whenever I'm screening an indie feature, I'm more forgiving, you could say. I don't expect that every single aspect of production will be top notch. It's never really a surprise if some aspects aren't as strong as others. I understand that when you're working with a very limited budget, some things will likely suffer; you'll have to make adjustments and compromises.

Our friends at Nollywood Mindspace, who have their fingers on the pulse of all things Nigerian cinema, are reporting that the film adaptation of celebrated author Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie's Orange Prize-winning novel, Half Of A Yellow Sun, will be making its world premiere at  at FESPACO - the 23rd Festival Panafrican du Cinema et de la Television de Ouagadougou in Burkina Faso - next month.
