I skipped this when it was in the theaters in 2009, after reading hearing about how empty, though funny, it was. At the time, there seemed to be plenty of mainstream media focus on *blackness*. It was the year that CNN debuted its Black In America series, and also there was a lot of attention being given to the plight of the single professional black woman in America, and, of course, in the midst of all of that, there was the never-ending black hair debate.

Zane, the prolific author of several erotic fiction novels, maybe best known for Addicted (which, by the way, is currently being adapted to film), saw her self-published Sex Chronicles become the basis for the Cinemax program Zane's Sex Chronicles, which ran for 2 seasons, starting in 2008.

We've covered the Janet Hubert/Will Smith/Fresh Prince of Bel Air controversy before, so I won't even bother rehashing. I think we are all somewhat familiar with the public battle between Janet Hubert, Will Smith and NBC, that led to the recasting of the role of Aunt Vivian, in The Fresh Prince of Bel Air's fourth season, in the mid-1990s, and all the drama that's since followed.
