Earlier this month, Impact Partners (The Cove, How to Survive a Plague, Hell and Back Again, Detropia, Pandora’s Promise) announced that it will release Joe Brewster's and Michèle Stephenson's acclaimed feature documentary, American Promise, in theaters, starting October 18.Today, the film's first theatrical release trailer, as well as the cities in which it'll open, have been released and follow below. American Promise will open first in New York City on October 18, followed by releases in Los Angeles, Washington, D.C., Philadelphia, Atlanta, the Bay Area, Chicago and Detroit shortly after.This personal film, a 13-year journey, follows the directors’ son (Idris) and his best friend (seun), from their first day of kindergarten through high school graduation, and how their lives diverge, as they navigate an elite, performance-driven, ivy league New York City prep school in a world still largely segregated by race, class and culture.

S&A has learned that SOLmont Events, the organizers of HollyShorts Film Festival, the largest short film festival in Los Angeles, will open this year's event with the world premiere of Chadwick Boseman’s Heaven, a short film the actor directed (his second directorial effort).

I recall an older S&A post, about 2 years prior to Django Unchained, when Quentin Tarantino said, during a Charlie Rose interview when Inglorious Basterds was opening, that he was interested in making a film about noted slavery abolitionist John Brown, but not in the traditional, as he said, "dreary, solemn, historical" manner biopics usually take form.

Fans of The Donald, I guess we could anoint him (aka Donald Glover) will know that, earlier this year, he suddenly, and without explanation, withdrew from social media, stopped updating his website as frequently (now it just shows the title of the website at the top of the page and a blank text box in which you’re able to enter an email address). His Twitter account became more and more esoteric, his Instagram account was cleaned out, and, just like that, Donald Glover, social media prince, had all-but disappeared from the medium that was instrumental in garnering him his large and faithful following.
