A DAYTIME TV EXCLUSIVE: TRAYVON MARTIN'S PARENTS TO APPEAR ON DR. PHIL THIS FRIDAY

(Hollywood, CA – September 13, 2012) – The parents of slain teenager Trayvon Martin sit down with Dr. Phil on Friday, September 14, 2012 (check local listings) in an effort to try and get past the terrible tragedy that has beset the family.

Trayvon's father Tracy Martin, his mother Sybrina Fulton and older brother Jahvaris speak to Dr. Phil about how they are coping as individuals and as a family, and ask for his guidance in moving forward.

They’re left with the questions about what should they or could they have done to prevent this,” said Dr. Phil. “They’re trying to make sense out of this tragic loss and they’re lost.

Trayvon Martin was shot and killed earlier this year following an altercation with neighborhood watchman George Zimmerman who is now in custody and facing a second degree murder charge. On Tuesday of this week, Dr. Phil opened the 11th season of his number one rated syndicated daytime talk show by interviewing Mark and Sondra Osterman, who say they are Zimmerman’s closest friends.

Why is all this yahoo demon trash gravitating to this site lately repeating the same talking points they heard on faux news

Snark is a tiresome type of humor from a tiresome type of person. No. Thank YOU, Factsobserver for your "contribution."

"Why is all this yahoo demon trash gravitating to this site lately repeating the same talking points they heard on faux news"

An eloquent and reasonable summation of your thoughts. Thank you, I feel better informed and prepared for thoughtful discussion on important issues.

So wait a minute.. George Zimmerman got out of his car with a CONCEALED licensed pistol (not illegal). George Zimmerman followed Trayvon Martin (not illegal) George zimmerman created a hostile situation (open to interpretation still NOT illegal). George Zimmerman asked Trayvon Martin "What are you doing?" (not illegal) Trayvon Martin then punched George Zimmerman directly in the face, and caused cuts and bruises to his nose, eyes and back of the head. (illegal: felony assault). George Zimmerman was pinned down being pummeled while screaming hysterically (like a child I might add) for help for almost a minute (thats a good 45 seconds of ILLEGAL felony assault).. And somehow this is not really self defense but in fact Second degree murder? Does that about sum it up? Something tells me a jury would disagree.

Your Comment first of all this is a teenager who was minding his business. Last i checked you can walk and go anywhere you please who is someone to follow you and try to play hero. Maybe some of you need to lose a child in this same situation...Trayon didn't ask to be followed if someone follows me in the night or day i will stand my ground... George was looking for trouble...

  • FACTSOBSERVER | September 15, 2012 10:35 AM

Ghost, I were able to read your writing I would be able to respond better..

If the cops had *done* their job better, this wouldn't be an issue.

Lets start there. What would you have done differently if you were a Sanford police officer? Would you document the crime scene, interview the shooter for 6 hours, administer a lie detector test, conduct a SECOND interview the following day send all of the facts to the District Attourney and proceed with the DA's directive.. Is that what you would have "did better"?

  • Ghost | September 15, 2012 10:06 AM

If the cops had did their job right-this wouldn't be an issue. Yet it looked like they were trying to cover up something because Zimmerman's family was linked to the legal system. It's not self defense when you go after him-call the cops and stay in the car and keep an eye on him. Not confront him. Is it second degree murder? No. Involuntary Manslaughter? Yes. He didn't plan on killing Trayvon unless he says God told him to.

Dr Phil , I have to DISAGREE with your last 2 shows that you had. You were one sided. I have been a Police Officer and I would have to do the same as Mr Zimmerman. Look at the facts I have heard on your show. 1- Trayvon assaulted Mr Zimmerman. 2- Mr. Zimmerman has proof of injurys. 3- Mr Zimmerman was legal to carry his weapon to defend himself. You said if Mr Zimmerman had not gotten out of his truck no one would have gotten shot? If Trayvon had not assaulted Mr Zimmerman he would not have been shot. You stated Trayvon was A kid? Look at the store shot he is much taller than the store employee. His father stated, at age 9 he pulled his father, a grown man, out of a house. One one is a winner in this. I'm sorry for the Martin family, wish it could be different. But NO I cannot say Mr Zimmerman was wrong in defending himself. I would have done the same.

  • THY | September 14, 2012 4:32 PM

First of all there is no one side to the story, if you are told not to follow a person that means stand down, you don't take the law into your own hands regardless of what crazy law they give you. Mr. Zimmerman just got his a$$ kicked thinking because that young many was thinner he could take him. What was he defending the boy was coming from a store not a robbery etc., so what's the defense. People please make common sense when you make a statement. People please learn that you have no right to take others people lives just because that is what is wrong with the world today.

  • Ticked off | September 14, 2012 10:36 AMReply

Okay Dr. Phil, You are so damn smart, why are you trying Mr. Zimmerman on piblic tv. How about reading all the reports about this little outlaw. He has a police record it would take and hour to read, he had just been thrown out of school , AGIAN. And what part of NOT ON DUTY do you not understand abouy Mr. Zimmerman status.o what he was a neighbour hood watch capitan. He was NOT on duty and was LEGALLY permitted to cary a side arm.
Plu at the age of 17 I wa beeeing trained to kill people. So get off your high horse and find something to do that might make a positive difference. Take one of your stupide polls and ee how many real americans feel about it. I Mr.Zimmerman going to jail ? Of coure he is. He has to in order to keep the blacks from burning down another town.

  • NO BRAINER | September 18, 2012 2:05 AM

"Trayvon Martin was on suspension from school for drug paraphranelia..." And for this reason, Zimmerman was justified in shooting and killing Trayvon Martin, right?

  • FactsObserver | September 15, 2012 11:33 AM

@Ghost, If you took 10 minutes to read up on the facts of the case you would answer your own question. Trayvon Martin was on suspension from school for drug paraphranelia (or if you want to down play it.. a bag with 'marijuana residue'.. surely a common occurance with all future NASA aerospace engineers in training). That was the only reason he was at the complex that evening (OF HIS DADS GIRLFRIEND NOT STEP MOTHER). He lived with his Step mother in Miami Gardens. So no, zimmerman would never have seen TM before that night.

  • Ghost | September 15, 2012 10:01 AM

Here is a question Zimmerman needs to be asked-if he is the so-called neighborhood watch in that area-would he have SEEN Trayvon in the neighborhood before all this? Since his father's girlfriend lives there and has a son of her own.? Wouldn't you know you neighbors? Especially in a gated community? Neighborhood watch should know who everybody is and at least have some active conversation with those around him.

  • THY | September 14, 2012 4:39 PM

All I can say is if it was your child. At the end of the day we all bleed "RED" so as far as all the comments, look into that mirror and what do you see (Ahah) the truth so they say his parents failed him "how" everybody makes mistakes but to have your life taken away from awannabe "COP" please. So before you pass judgement about this kid remember that you have love ones as well bullets don't look at color

  • NO BRAINER | September 14, 2012 3:46 PM

    Really??? No comment...

  • bondgirl | September 14, 2012 11:54 AM

Really? What police report...the one saying he had a "burglary tool", which turns out to be a flathead screwdriver? Yes, we know that white man+ screwdriver= carpenter, and black man+screwdriver= criminal. Elvis's fat ass had more drugs in his system than Trayvon, yet you probably still hold him up as some fake King of Rock for appropriating black music. Zimmerman is the outlaw, and he will be dealt with accordingly. And if you google "Rosewood, FL" and "burned town", you'll find that white people like yourself are much more likely to decimate an entire population with your own insidious hatred of others, than black people .

  • Orville | September 13, 2012 5:37 PMReply

I think it was the wrong decision for Trayvon Martin's parents to go on Dr. Phil because that man is so unprofessional. Also, the legal case for George Zimmerman hasn't even started yet why talk to the media now? It doesn't make any sense. What good could it do for Trayvon's parents to be on Dr. Phil? American media is so strange glorifying and making a spectacle of a young man's death. The parents should be mourning privately not talking about their pain on television to the press.

  • NO BRAINER | September 18, 2012 2:15 AM

But, again, it's their choice. Maybe they want the world to see what they're going through emotionally. They've earned the right to do whatever they want, as long as they're not hurting anyone. Also, with all the slander Zimmerman supporters are broadcasting in an effort to vilify Trayvon Martin, they shouldn't waste a single second before publicly defending him and preserving a positive image of their son, as was done on Dr. Phil's show. Outraged, I would go public too.

  • Orville | September 15, 2012 10:06 AM

@no brainer, actually no what Travyon Martin's parents should be doing is getting the support they need privately. I never said Trayvon's parents should not talk about their son's death. I am just disgusted at this American society's propensity to glorify death. Everything is a circus in America, a young boy is dead, the trial hasn't even started why go on television reliving that tragedy? It doesn't make any sense it is just glorifying Travyon's death. The parents should be seeking counselling privately and not talking to the press.

  • NO BRAINER | September 14, 2012 3:44 PM

First of all, I don't know anyone, especially blacks, who believes he deserved to die. That's almost unheard of in my world. Secondly, they have the right to go public with their feelings about the murder of their son if they want. White people run to cameras just as much as black people. Let's be real. And rightfully so. It's not always good to keep yourself isolated and to bury such strong emotions deep inside yourself. It's dangerous. So, I say, let them. They didn't have to go to Dr. Phil. They could've went anywhere. Trust that they're doing the right thing for themselves. They're the ones who lost their teenage son here.

  • Ghost | September 13, 2012 11:49 PM

Until I see a guilty verdict-I want everyone to stay out of sight. Don't do anything to sway anyone that might serve on that jury. Because you still have plenty of folks including some blacks that say he deserved to die and his parents failed him. Let me quote some of the comments I have heard "If that was my child he would not have that cellphone nor watching the All Star Game or leaving the house for anything after getting suspended from school." "Zimmerman needs to go free because he saved taxpayers money by getting rid of a future criminal." "If Zimmerman was black we wouldn't be wasting our time with all this." What on Earth can they say? Instead of Dr Phil, how about organizing folks to get some chances in that town? Lets get some laws change so no other parent will go through this and that law is finally defined. White folks do it all the time but we seem to run to a camera and complain.

  • NO BRAINER | September 13, 2012 11:36 PM

The both of you are making no sense right now. The family have the right to mourn as they want. You might want to mourn in private but maybe they have done enough of that and now want the world to see how they're doing. What is so wrong with that?

  • Ghost | September 13, 2012 8:36 PM

I agree. All this does is add more fuel to the complaints that we see black folks come all out for this but when it's black killing blacks as we have seen in Chicago-no one cares. Why doesn't Phil do a show on all those deaths. Let these parents mourn in peace and Lifetime work on the movie (that we all know is coming).

  • Akimbo | September 13, 2012 2:14 PMReply

I wish they hadn't. Especially not with credibility-killing Dr. Phil.

  • NO BRAINER | September 13, 2012 11:33 PM

    Credibility-killing Dr. Phil??? Please explain...

  • NinaG | September 13, 2012 2:16 PM
