A niche film festival like this is one way to go. And even more interesting to us here at S&A is that 2 of its 3 founders/directors of the young festival are young black women.

Meet Adelle McElveen, Kimara Mitchell Stokes, and Annie Wilson, founders/directors of The San Francisco Fashion Film Festival, which held its inaugural event last April, less than a year ago.

The first installment of the 2-day festival was held in 2012 at the oldest continuously operating movie theater in San Francisco, the Roxie Theatre (opened in 1909), promising to offer a new take on what it means to be stylish in the cinema.

Its slate included a curated selection of independent, documentary, and dramatic production films, both old and recent, with a goal being to provide a broader perspective on costume, set design, storytelling, and cinematography, and highlight films about the designers and artists who shape the world of fashion and style.

The founders were able to raise over $6,000 last year to help launch the festival.

Last year's inaugural event was said to be a huge success, according to post-festival press write-ups.

Any of our San Francisco readers attend? If you weren't aware of them, consider this your introduction, and maybe you'll attend this year's event.

What lies ahead for year two? No line-up announcements have been made yet, but you can follow them on Facebook (HERE) and Twitter (HERE) to stay connected and up-to-date as 2013's installment of the festival comes together.

In the meantime, watch their promo/pitch video below from a year ago, in which they talk about their backgrounds, inspirations, motivations and goals for the festival.
