A Sign Of The Times - A Gay Interracial Wedding In Archie Comics

I don't know really what's more shocking: a gay interracial marriage in an Archie comic book, or the fact that they're still putting out Archie comic books.

The big news today is that in the next issue of Archie Comics, the plotline centers on the wedding between Kevin Keller, a gay character who regularly appears in the comics, and his long time black companion Cary Walker.

According to Archie Comics CEO Jon Goldwater, the couple first met at a military hospital which will be revealed in flashback in the plotline.

As for the controversy this will no doubt get, the writer of the storyline Dan Parent said that: "the world of Riverdale has to refelct comtemporary culture and to show it is an accepting, diverse place. And that's why Kevin is important, to show that everybody is welcome in this all-American town we're embraced for over 70 years" (WOW! you mean Archie, Veronica, Betty and Jughead are all over 70 years old? Who's their surgeon?)

So how you feel about this? Do you agree with Dan Parent that comics, even Archive, must reflect society as it exists in the real world?

Or do you believe that this is just another example of the degradation of our culture? And of course... what about the childen? Is this another attempt by the evil socialst Obama Adminatration to turn our children gay?

Tell us what you say.

I'm so shocked at the mild, reasonable (and vaguely geeky) response to this thread that I feel half-minded to start a tirade on the decline of western society, myself.

    Where will this end?

That's the best I can do. I'm delighted.

Didn't know Archie's was still around either. Guess they need some publicity.

Archie also produces Sonic The Hedgehog and all the related Sonic comics. They also did Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.

They tend to have the digest size comics that you can still find in most stores. The standard comics they produce can be found in comic stores and maybe Barnes & Nobles.

They did a very good and award winning comic book with Chuck Clayton back in 2007.

They have expaned the Archie roster to feature every race and they all appear in every comic. I jsut find it funny that thye are doing this when they FIRED a writer for trying to give Betty a black boyfriend. The issue was drawn and everythign and after they fired the writer they changed his skin color.

This is very interesting because Archie comics has a wide audience. I've got to give the creators of Archie credit for this gay interracial storyline. Interracial relationships do occur in the LGBT community and also I think it is important for people to know black men can be gay. Yes, Archie is a comic book but I think this is wonderful.
