I wish my cable provider included Oprah's OWN Network right about now...

Family Affair, written and produced by Chico David Colvard, premiered the Sundance Film Festival in 2010, and was eventually released in theaters (limited). The award winning documentary tells the story of how the first time filmmaker, at the age of 10, accidentally shot his older sister in the leg.  This event shatters his family as his sisters' history of sexual abuse is exposed. Believing she would die from her injuries, his nine-year old sister revealed that their father had sexually molested her and her sisters for years.

Thirty years after the shooting, Colvard visited with family members to document their pain, their resilience and “the nature of forgiveness.”

Family Affair is premiering tonight on OWN at 8pm ET/PT.

I want to somehow contact the family and ask them to help their sister with Schizophrenia. That disease is so tourterous on EVERYONE! The impact on the children can be devistating and it became clear to me that those kids are suffering. I work hard everyday as a School Counselor to help kids that are being abused to "TELL" I had not really thought of how long the tenticles reach out and impact lives...i.e. the one sister not having custody of her son and the other sister's fear when she sees her daughter's love for her own father. The dysfunction makes the norm wrong and the wrong normal. We must all fight to stop this type of interaction in families!

I really want to watch this. When will it air again?

This story merely brushes the surface of the level of denial and lack of accountability in this family. This documentary is a start, but it does not go deep enough.

Damn! I missed it. Keep telling myself to go to the website and set up reminders. Hopefully, it'll air again. Thanks for the heads up though.
