As I said yesterday, when Tambay does his usual year in review and what S & A covered during the past year, 12 Years A Slave will no doubt be the film we most wrote about (With The Butler coming in second).

Here's yet another clip from Steve McQueen's 12 Years A Slave, which opens in limited release this Friday, after a much-celebrated, albeit brief trip through the film festival circuit. In this new short clip, Chiwetel Ejiofor as Solomon Northup is confronted by Sarah Paulson's stone-cold Mistress Epps, as she reminds him of who (or maybe I should say, what) he is.Fox Searchlight will open 12 Years A Slave theatrically on October 18, in a limited roll-out and will then expand nationwide in successive weeks.

I hope you're not yet feeling overwhelmed with 12 Years A Slave posts, because as the film's theatrical debut date approaches, a week from tomorrow, you should expect even more posts, as marketing for the film, by its distributor, Fox Searchlight, will likely intensify. Here's a new featurette titled "Chiwetel Ejiofor Becomes Solomon Northup," which, as the title suggests, highlights the actor's transformation into the character he plays - a character whose story the film tells, and who is in practically almost every scene.Fox Searchlight will open 12 Years A Slave theatrically on October 18, in a limited roll-out and will then expand nationwide in successive weeks.

Ok, I get it. At least, I think I do. Granted I didn't attend the Fox Searchlight meeting during which the concept for this new trailer/TV spot/promo was hatched up, so I can't claim to know the motivations behind it.

The recent news that director Andrew Dosunmu has been tapped to replace Steve McQueen as helmer of the long-talked-about biopic on Nigerian music icon Fela Anikulapo Kuti has got a lot of people talking. Many are wondering what this change means for the look and feel of the project. I'm wondering what it might mean in terms of casting.

In my interview with Steve McQueen over the weekend, one of the questions on my list to ask him, was whether he still planned to direct a feature film based on the life Afrobeat pioneer and activist, Fela Kuti, which was to star Chiwetel Ejiofor.
