Viola Davis has joined Jake GyllenhaalPaul Dano, Hugh Jackman and Melissa Leo in Dennis Villeneuve's thriller Prisoner.

Villeneuve's last work was the critically acclaimed Incendies, which I highly recommend! But it looks like Viola is in good company, and good hands.

The story (from a script penned by Aaron Guzikowski - Contraband), centers on a "small-town carpenter named Keller (Jackman) whose young daughter and her best friend are kidnapped. After the cops fail to find them, Keller takes the law into his own hands, but in the process runs up against Detective Loki (Gyllenhaal), a hot-shot cop with confidence to burn," says The Wrap.

No word on what role exactly Viola will be playing in this.

Alcon8:38 Productions and Madhouse Entertainment are all producing.

Ed McDonnell and John Stark will executive produce.

Production is scheduled to begin in early 2013, for a fall 2013 release, via Warner Bros.

Man, it looks like Viola has been relegated to 10 lines again. Spike Lee needs to direct/create a female version of "Inside Man" for Viola to star in or something.

Yeah that's the thing. People think because you're on tv or in a movie that you're instantly a "Star." And even if you are nominated or even win an award, that your career takes off. Yes, you have more opportunities than you did yesterday, but it doesn't all of a sudden change your TYPE, and that is a huge stumbling block for women, minorities and older actors. All the little details of why they WON'T cast you :-(

@ Bondgirl: Point taken, but I feel as if Viola has not gotten the full length starring roles that she deserves. I want to see her lead an action movie or a romantic comedy.

Funny you say that Viola only has 10 lines...Melissa Leo actually won an Oscar and still had less than that in Flight. Sorry but women like these 2 are character actors more than leads. We know how Viola takes 5 lines and turns it into an award winner.
