It's that time of the year... some quckie TV pilot casting news...

First, relative newcomer Aja Naomi King has been cast in the CW’s medical drama pilot, First Cut (yay, another TV medical drama) which centers on the life of a doctor, fresh out of medical school, who works at a hospital.

Ms King will play a surgical intern.

Second.... Mustafa Shakir, who already has a number of TV credits to his name, has joined the cast of NBC’s drama pilot The Frontier, which centers on a group that "heads West from Missouri across the uncharted country in the 1840s."

Intrigued. Lots going on in this country, in the west, during those years; the Mexican–American War and the California gold rush notably. But this sounds like it's more about the group's journey than their destination.

Shakir will play a character names Rossignol.

Yes! I love love love Aja, weird enough I saw her amazing showcase after she graduated from Yale, followed her to Bluebloods...even watched her on Broadway! I am so so so happy that she's in a show. Finally more beautiful DARK-SKINNED BLACK WOMEN on tv. I love it!
