Albert Hughes Attached To Direct Revenge Thriller "Motor City"

When I first read this, I confused it with the project his twin brother Allen Hughes is developing, which we reported in June. That project (Allen's) is called Broken City, and you can read my post announcing it HERE; this project (Albert's) is called Motor City! Both are based on scripts that were on the Blacklist.

So, I'm sure you can see how I could have initially thought Albert's revealed today by Twitch, was actually Allen's.

Moving right along... the news is that Warner Bros has signed Albert Hughes on to direct Motor City, which is based on a 2009 Black List script, and is described as "a revenge film about a small time crook who is framed and sent to jail only to go after those who put him there upon release."

Most interesting about the Motor City script is that it reportedly contains only a single line of dialogue! And a studio is moving forward with this? Not that it can't be done. In fact, I welcome the challenge of it. But it doesn't sound like something a Hollywood studio would embrace. A film that takes place in a single location is one thing, but one with only a single line of dialogue... things that make you go hmm... I wish I could get my hands on this script (wink, wink).

And what actors are being considered to star in this? Captain America himself, Chris Evans.

Joel Silver who's producing the film, reportedly believes in Chris Evans' potential as a draw, and has offered him the lead.

Joel Edgerton and Jeremy Renner are also said to be in consideration.

Stay tuned...

Although I would prefer if they keep working together, it's nice to see them both working on separate projects for once, hopefully both turn out good.

Guess I'll have to pull this script out of the archives and read it finally....I just hope Hughes doesn't go the "Motown" route like "Detroit 187" and others....Detroiters have moved passed that sound for 20 years now.

Curious to see how they direct projects separate from one another.

It actually is a great script. Pretty hardcore & gritty, devoid of color. The look & feel will be a lot like BOOK OF ELI, 'cept in modern day Detroit (please no apocalypse jokes).

It has more than one line of dialogue...probably a page/page & a half total through all characters, of which there's 8 or 9.

And Tamara, that "Fuck" scene from THE WIRE is a beast!

    "You had me at hello."

A challenge, inDEED. Definitely want to see/read more about this.

A scene in the "Wire" between Bunk and McNulty used only one word, repeated over and over with different inflection and tone and still the scene was effective and one of my favs in the series. But that was a 'scene'. A whole film though?

    Muy interesante...
