An intriguing project that has just 3 days left to reach its funding goal via Kickstarter, and YOU can help it get there.

I'll be brief since there isn't much time left :)

The gist...

The filmmakers: Joe Brewster and Michèle Stephenson

The project: titled American Promise.

What's it about: a 12-year documentary that follows their (the filmmakers') son and his best friend from kindergarten at a private prep school through high school graduation.

More from the project's Kickstarter page:

The Context

As you probably know, America’s education system is in trouble. And for young black males, it’s in crisis. Black boys are twice as likely as whites to be held back in elementary school, three times as likely to be suspended from school, and half as likely to graduate from college.

The Film

We had these startling statistics in mind twelve years ago, when we decided to send our son Idris to a prestigious school in NYC. We turned the camera on ourselves, Idris and his best friend, Seun in order to make sense of the harsh realities facing black males in today's schools. Twelve years later, Idris and Seun are seniors in high school, and we're now in the midst of our final year of shooting.

Visit its Kickstarter page HERE for the rest of the story, and to contribute to the campaign as well. As already noted, 3 days remain, with almost $10,000 left ot raise (they've alraedy raised over $40,000, so, obviously, many believe in the project and have spoken with their dollars).

And, by the way, the completed film is scheduled to air on PBS' prestigious POV program in 2013; but they've got to finish the film first.

So, watch the pitch below; and underneath you'll find a working trailer:
