An Expression Of Appreciation From Us To You!

I've never said this before, and it's something worth saying: we have some of the toughest, sharpest, passionate, well-informed readers and comment posters on the web! You guys definitely help keep us honest and on top of our shit!

And I mean all of that! It's tough enough to get others to actually read what one writes, let alone react to it with words. It's even more appreciated when the reactions are often so rich, diverse, and challenging enough to give one reason to reconsider one's stance.

We certainly don't know everything, and every exchange here is an opportunity to learn something, regardless of what it is.

So, I just wanted to take the time to thank you all for your patronage, from those who've been around since day 1, to those just joining us. I don't think we (not just us here on S&A, but human beings in general) express appreciation and gratitude enough; when we do, it's sometimes too late.

And I didn't want to wait until then, so here ya go. Give yourselves a round of applause... :)

  • incrediblejeff | August 1, 2011 6:04 AMReply

And I would like to thank you,for keeping me informed.

  • chiguy | July 31, 2011 8:16 AMReply

All thanks go back to you guys for creating this platform for such an underserved community of filmmakers. Coming to this site is a daily morning ritual and I always take away some insight, information, or a view of an up and coming filmmakers great work. For the most part, this site is quietly making filmmakers raise their bar away from the elementary filmmaking that has plagued us for so long. I give props to you guys and the readers because they will call bullshit on a piece in a second, as they should. Let us continue to support this site via views, comments, films, information, and healthy debate.

I only ask that you guys make more folks aware of your existence. I tell every filmmaker I know about the site but I need you guys at every film festival in shadow and act t-shirts, banners etc. Believe it or not, this is a movement. A movement long overdue. Every minority film festival, symposium, organization, and filmmaker should be aware of this site. Keep it moving guys, you continue to inspire me on a daily basis.

I'm thankful that I randomly discovered S&A. Love this site, and feel like I'd be out of the loop about black film without it. Keep up the great work!!!

S&A does a good thing for cinema news; it keeps it balanced. Keep doing your thing, and much to success to you.

  • CareyCarey | July 30, 2011 11:47 AMReply

Of course I have to say, THANK YOU back!

Forget about it, where else can a brotha get cussed out, kicked out, invited to co-host a podcast, get slammed and kicked to the curb by Sergio, get in fights with two women (Monique & Cyhthia) and many more, without going to jail, all in a day of having fun and discussing movies with black folks. Come on now, it don't get no better. All the while staying abreast of the ongoing affairs of black cinema. Shiiiit, I'll keep coming back... sometimes before I brush my teeth in the morning.

  • LvFlg | July 30, 2011 11:28 AMReply

You are the best! the bestest!!!!!!

  • Jug | July 30, 2011 11:09 AMReply

Maan y'all the first read after the trades-daily! And Thank You, for having a blog, black or otherwise, where people actually talk, debate, and dialogue instead of anonymous snark & industry hate/pettiness.

Love y'all man. Viva la S&A!

  • Joe Doughrity | July 30, 2011 10:39 AMReply

I can honestly say this is one of my favorite web sites in the whole wide web! When I miss a day or two or three because of work I'm withdrawn. The new newsletter makes it easy to stay on top! Keep up the good work keeping us informed and entertained. From Tambay to Sergio and Ms. Woo. Arron Day, The Young Lion and all. Don't always agree nor get rave reviews for my work here but I will always keep coming and showing love to S&A! The Black Deadline doesn't do you justice. ... and on the selfish plug tip check out the "CornerStore" Facebook at At the AMC Southfield in Detroit from August 12-18th!

    *hugs website*

    No, thank YOU :-)

    ---alternate scene---

*enters stage left, takes mic from tambay, looks out over audience, considers visitors seen and unseen, looks at cast (admin/creators/moderators) gives terse nod, sucks teeth, considers, nods again, drops mic, throws deuces, pimp strolls across stage, exit stage right...sound of crickets chirping*

yeah that doesn't quite work, does it now???

*hugs site again* thanks for keeping your fingers to the pulse of black/african diasporadic filmmaking :-) stay up!

  • Zeus | July 30, 2011 9:28 AMReply

  • Zeus | July 30, 2011 9:24 AMReply

Not a problem. Glad to visit.

You give us a place to debate and who doesn't love that?

Plus the opportunity to allow us to give ourselves shameless plugs like this:

    To much more continued success.

  • artbizzy | July 30, 2011 4:42 AMReply

I love this site. It really is a portal into not only independent black film but independent black art in general. The consistent posts, the range of voices, the humanity, honesty and respect with you impart your information - that goes for the S&A writers as well as the Commenters. Most importantly this site provides me with so much hope for the future of independent film and art in general. Much needed and much appreciated.

Aww, this would have to be my FAV post from the S&A team. I would like to thank you guys for keeping many of us informed with the latest news from casting, actor spotlights, director spotlights, film festivals, what to watch out for that is "new" and upcoming on the scene.

I know we had out differences Tambay about certain subjects but that's what I love about this blog there are so many passionate people who have so much to say and their differences may clash with others but we all come together at the end of the day and enjoy, exchange our ideas, thoughts about cinema of the African diaspora.

    Thanks, again S&A!!!!

    Much Love & Respect :)
