An actor I think we'd all love to see get more and more screen time (both on TV and in theaters) Mr Andre Braugher has signed on to play the lead role in an new ensemble ABC network drama pilot titled Last Resort.

What's Last Resort about:

The project centers on the crew of the U.S.S. Nevada, a nuclear submarine, who, after disobeying a suspicious order, become fugitives. They land on the island of Sainte Marina, where they take over the NATO Listening Station and declare themselves an independent nuclear nation.

I like how that reads. And no it's not a J.J. Abrams or Shonda Rhimes project, since it seems both of those names seem to be attached to every third or fourth new show that's announced (nyuck, nyuck).

Although it does sound like something Abrams would produce doesn't it?

According to Deadline, Braugher will play Captain Marcus Chaplin, the commander of the U.S.S. Nevada, a combat veteran, leader and a patriot, but very much his own man.

The Emmy award-winning veteran actor will likely be most recently remembered for his Emmy-nominated work on the cancelled TNT dramedy Men Of A Certain Age

Now what are the chances that Braugher won't be the ONLY non-white actor in this new series' ensemble cast?

Since the suspension of MOACA, Braugher gets roles that involve police work or now, head of a nuclear sub. Roles like Braugher had on MOACA are so much richer, please bring Men of a Certain Age back.

BEST pilot script of the season by far! Excellent casting & as noted, Shawn Ryan had Dennis Haysbert, Delroy Lindo & Jennifer Beals as the leads of his last two shows (LIE TO ME aside). Hot!

With that news, and your insight, I'm gonna see if I can get my hands on it. Mr. Braugher being bad-ass again? Oh yeah. And on your NBC comment, I hope it's just the alignment of the overlapping pilots vs. their own "magical negro" a la Obama, a la Tuskegee Airmen situation: going to the brothas when all else fails.

And very quietly, NBC has an action pilot with 4, count 'em FOUR Black MALE Series Reg roles. Not little boys, but grown ass men. I want to see what happens with that (working my a$$ off to get in there)....
