Author and spiritual life coach Iyanla Vanzant has made quite the comeback in the last two years.  First, she released a new book, Peace From Broken Pieces, that landed her back on the New York Times bestsellers list.  Then, she publicly reconciled with the queen of media...Oprah Winfrey.  Well that reconciliation has paid off well garnering Iyanla not only an appearance on Oprah's Life Class program but her own self-help show on the OWN network as well.

The production, currently titled Iyana Fix My Life, has been in development for awhile now and Iyana just released this statement - via Facebook - conveying her appreciation for the opportunity along with when it will air:

"...After much prayer and conscious consideration I am choosing to move forward with this project as my next step in service to the world. I am so humbled and grateful to have this opportunity to do what I love; on a network that gives me the freedom to be myself; working with people who value what I bring to the table; offering to the people I love (that would be you) a consistent dose of something I believe will facilitate and support the personal growth and spiritual evolution of individuals, families and communities. Enjoy as I share this part of the journey with you. I invite you to join me on OWN when the show airs later this year. We'll let you know as soon as we have an idea of when that will be! Love, Iyanla "

This will mark a return to television for Iyanla who previously had a brief run as a talk show host back in 2001 with her Barbara Walters produced show Iyanla

She later briefly appeared on the Emmy-winning reality show Starting Over.

I had the opportunity to be a part of a taping for this new show. I was so elated to "be in the number". When Ms. Vanzant walked onto the set looking fabulous in her red dress, I must admit that I had a tear in my eye. I am happy that she will be able to bring her message and teachings to a vast amount of people. I believe that we are tested so that we will have a testimony, and I thank God and the universe for Iyanla's testimony!

Like everyone else, I pretty much knew that they'd be working together after Iyanla V. appeared on that 2 part episode on Oprah's final season of the Oprah Winfrey Show. Say what you want to about Oprah, but she is no dummy, she knew the chemistry and the rapport were still there and if she was tempted to resist, the ratings don't lie. Hate to use the cliche 'no brainer' but...

Iyanla and O need each other at this point. I wonder if Iyanla would have been part of the programming if OWN's ratings were stronger. Nevertheless, don't f*** this up, Iyanla.

I am so so happy for Iyanla Vanzant. I have been utilizing her gift early on in NYC. Acts of Faith her pocket book sat on my desk at work and I would read it daily to get through the day in a positive healing way. I knew the Barbara Walter's direction was the wrong path at that time but had NO way to share my experience in the industry to Ms. Vanzant even though I tried. I prayed when Oprah and Iyanla reunited that forgiveness would play a huge role in these two powerful woman coming together. I am so happy for Ms. Vanzant and would love to have my dream come true and that is to work with her one day. This is my prayer. Sincerely,

I hate to say it, because I respect Oprah, but it's kind of interesting that she's choosing to *cough* darken *cough* OWN programming now that her ratings are going down. Kind of a late adoption of the FOX, UPN and WB formula. Guess those suburban white-stay-at-home moms are watching Bravo housewives after dark.

Iyanla and Oprah, two very talented people, could rule the world (or daytime television) if they work together.

Was hoping Iyanla's appearance on Life Class meant she would have her own show. I doubt Oprah's motivation was due to low ratings. More than likely, O started developing the show BEFORE the dramatic two part interview but Iyanla had to fess up, kiss some ass, kiss some more ass, then get her big shot. Anyway, glad she's back on tv. From what little I've seen of her, she seems to be more reasonable and down to earth than other celebrity advisors.

I knew O would forgive her! Yes! Congratulations to her.

Channel ratings had to go in the toilet before O broke down and took her back. I bet Iyanla won't be having another "falling out" with her now.

This was the best thing Oprah could do right now... This can only help OWN's ratings. Rooting for you O!

I KNEW IT! Her appearances on the Oprah Show were a blatant attempt to ask for absolution from Pope Oprah I and to get her own show. And it worked! Hey whatever works

  • Con | February 28, 2012 11:42 AM

    Definitely what I thought also!

When I saw her two part interview on Oprah last year, I was hoping it would lead to this. Hooray for her! Hey, her advice made a LOT more sense to Dr. Phil's to me, so hopefully her show will be similar to what she did when she was a regular on the Oprah Show.

Those episodes were kind of hard to watch. She fell ALL THE WAY on her sword, but I guess she had to. She made a BIG mistake. Not leaving Oprah per se, there are other places, but Oprah was clearly grooming her and would have nurtured her talent instead of being mishandled by BW's people. You live and you learn.
