We just learned that BET will broadcast the TV world premiere of Matthew Cherry's drama The Last Fall.

The film will air next week Tuesday, December 18, at 7:30pm. So those of you who didn't get to check it out while it was on its very limited theatrical run (which really is most of you, since it didn't play wide), here's your chance to see it (assuming you have cable TV).

By the way, the drama, which stars Lance Gross and Nicole Beharie, will be heading to home video - DVD and on VOD - on January 152013.

So I finally saw this and, while it wasn't terrible, it was not good. It looked great -beautifully shot - but sounded bad. The dialogue was the biggest problem- on the nose, repetitive, melodramatic, overly expositional- and it didn't help that the movie dragged with very few plot developments. While the majority of the cast was great, I found Vanessa Bell Calloway, Lance Gross, and the dude who played his best friend, and to be weak spots (from weak to weakest). Two other quibbles: the baby daddy drama unfolded in a nonsensical and improbable fashion and Lance's character was really disrespectful to his own mother. He did one nice thing for her in the beginning and spent the rest of the movie judging her life and yelling at her...in her own house. Kind of made him an unsympathetic character. At the end of the day, the movie wasn't total garbage; just your run-of-the-mill bad indie drama. Better luck next time.

Excellent news. Just programmed it into the DVR. I did read, with interest, every entry of his diary here on S&A, and I can't wait to see the finished product. (I do wish, though, that the entries had continued all the way through the process---would have been really interesting to get a fly-on-the-wall view of what it took to make it this far...)
