'Being Mary Jane'
Per press release from BET, more than 6 million viewers tuned in to watch the mid-season finales of The Game and the season finale of Let's Stay Together, on Tuesday night.

The release doesn't give a breakdown of that "over 6 million," like what percentage of audiences tuned in during the actual season finale hours, and what percentage watched during the encore broadcasts of both shows.

The Game will return to finish the season on Tuesday, July 2, at 10pm.

The network also reveals that Being Mary Jane, what was to be its freshman hour-long drama starring Gabrielle Union, from the creators of The Game (The Akils), will make its debut on Tuesday, July 2, at 10:30pm, but in the form of an original movie - the movie that premiered at the Urbanworld Film Festival last fall.

The Akils are no longer the Golden Couple after Sparkle flopped, and The Game returned to low ratings and even lower viewership acclaim (read The Game's Facebook page after every episode airs). Plus, Gabrielle is not as big a draw as she used to be (D Wade; when she mentioned being up for the role of Olivia Pope, the black blogosphere was mostly glad.she wasn't cast). I'm going to be that Viacom is going to keep BET on a short leash when it comes to original programming, and are probably plotting ways to get Love & Hip-Hop clones on the station without arousing the ire of black bloggers and pop culture critics (though these folks will watch that type of stuff on _other_ stations...hypocritical) because profits are probably low.
