It was in August when we told you that multi-hyphenate Beyoncé Knowles was shopping a non-fiction film to Hollywood studios that would center on her life and career, and that she will not only star in of course, but will also direct and produce.

The documentary, which is being described "a fusion of video that provides raw, unprecedented access to the private entertainment icon and high-voltage performances," has been picked up by HBO; the cable TV network plans to air the film, exclusively, starting on February 16, 2013

According to the press release:

The film is a multi-faceted portrait of the 16-time Grammy Award-winning singer, businesswoman, songwriter, actress, entrepreneur, wife and mother, showing off the extraordinary gifts that have made her a global phenomenon, and stripping away the veneer of stardom. It includes extensive first-person footage, some of it shot by Beyoncé on her laptop, in which she reflects on the realities of celebrity, the refuge she finds onstage and the transcendent joy of becoming a mother last year.

The film sheds light on her childhood in Houston, with home movies revealing the close bond she built with her family and charts the challenges Beyoncé felt when she decided to manage her career and build her own company, Parkwood Entertainment. It also captures the intense physical and emotional demands she goes through in the studio, preparing for live performances, running a business and her family life, including her return to the spotlight after the birth of her daughter, Blue Ivy Carter, in January 2012.

The fact that it'll air on HBO likely tells us that it will indeed be raw, as the description states.

"Everybody knows Beyoncé's music, but few know Beyoncé the person... Along with electrifying footage of Beyoncé onstage, this unique special looks beyond the glamour to reveal a vibrant, vulnerable, unforgettable woman," said Michael Lombardo, president, HBO Programming.

Beyoncé herself aded: "HBO has a history of pushing every boundary with class and authenticity... Some of my favorite shows are on HBO, so I am excited that my film will be part of its bold programming. This film was so personal to me, it had to have the right home."

There's no title given for the film yet.

While it certainly won't be the first time that Ms Knowles is the subject of a documentary film, it will be the first time that she's the subject of a documentary film directed by her.

She also serves as the film's executive producer.

We'll be on the look-out for that first trailer.

Bey should change her name to Narci, 'cause she's one of the most overexposed narcissistic performers out there. What could possibly be new, much less interesting, in this documentary about her that we don't already know. Unless she plans on showing us Blue Ivy's face who cares?! And even then, who cares?!

More hype than substance. For someone who always talks about her privacy and releasing head shots of her daughter, doesn't half love the limelight.

I hear you....I wonder; how many of those Grammys did she win with Destiny's Child? And how exactly is Beyonce an Icon?

Cool :) It will be interesting to see if we "see" or "hear" anything different than what we've seen/heard in the past before about the "multi-hyphenate". :) I like that word!
