Bradley Cooper To (Maybe) Co-Star With Beyonce In 'A Star Is Born' Remake

First it was Russell Crowe, then Leonardo DiCaprio, then Christian Bale and even Tom Cruise. They all were offered the role at one time or attached to the project, but dropped out.

But it's now been revealed that Bradley Cooper has been offered the male lead opposite Beyonce for the 'A Star is Born' remake, to be directed by Clint Eastwood.

No guarantee if Cooper will accept the role however. According to one source "there is no deal in place and Cooper has a very busy schedule."

Which makes one wonder why they're having so much trouble finding a leading man... Is the script no good, or do they fear that the role will be overshadowed by Beyonce? Or maybe because no one wants to work with her? Or is it all of the above, or none of the above?

Beats me.

Beyonce' is a very talented performer but she is not ready for this movie.
She should think twice about working with a once talented actor director who talks
to a chair. I'm sure if Clint would have called President Obama on the phone he would have spoken to him. Clint would do better making a movie about the Republican Convention.
Republicans are very practiced in talking about things that have never happened.

Hold up, wait there are no Jealous actors here, they are looking at from her performances and nothing else with the greatest opportunity ever given a singer which was Cadillac Records and she was horrible cause the scenes where she was supposed show her emotional timing and and the beats and she blew it. She is really bad only cause she refuses to put in the work to get better. I think everyone would agree that Nicole Ari Parker at one time was just a so so actor, she went off some where and put in the work and now she kicks ass, steals scenes from some of the best. She is seen as a raging talent now. Beyonce can do the same thing but refuses cause time after time she does not rise to the level in her acting. That's not jealousy take my word for it none of the folk here are jealous, most are filmmakers or the like. Sure we would love the day when Beyonce kills it on screen but she does not put in the work. Now Take Lindsey Lohan, with all her stupidity and troubles with the law, the one thing the girl can act her ass off when she is focused. We wait to be able to say damn Beyonce killed it in that scene. but she has more access to the best acting coaches around and she does not go for it.

  • Joseph G. | August 22, 2012 12:03 AM

@LEONRAYMOND Also, please speak with proof, you said it takes Beyonce 8 takes to do a scene, and you don't even know that for sure. You are just saying whatever to help your case. Also, you couldn't think of a black actress who could act her ass off, instead of Lindsay Lohan?
    Don't be a film snob.

  • Joseph G. | August 22, 2012 12:00 AM

@LEONRAYMOND I have been on this site for a year. It never changes. The fact that you are saying there are NO jealous actors here, already says you are only speaking for yourself. Some people have said damn she killed it, I did. Does that mean I don't know good acting? Do I think Beyonce has yet to take on a role that would ask for something a little more challenge, probably not. However, I have never left the theater feeling like owe her acting was distracting. If Nicole Ari Parker was at A-List status, none of you would have anything good to say. I enjoy her too. I have seen movies where the acting was a distraction, so I know what bad acting is. Beyonce is a huge star, known for being Beyonce, so it's hard for some people to see anything but her in her roles, but I would not say she was a bad actor at all. Yes, people here have a tendency to dislike whoever is on top. True story, from a years experience of reading comments here. Not everyone, but there are a lot.

  • Joseph G. | August 21, 2012 10:50 PMReply

At the end of the day it sounds like jealousy from bitter actors. Cause I enjoyed Dreamgirls, Cadillac Records, and even Obsessed. They did pretty well too. So, on a site with a lot of struggling artist, it's easy to see through the spew of hate and see the "Why isn't it me?" attitude.

  • CareyCarey | August 21, 2012 11:36 PM

"there was not one decent performance in her whole entire acting career" STOP! I'm with you Joseph G. I think Beyounce carried her weight in ALL the movies you listed. I loved Dreamgirls AND thoroughly enjoyed Cadillac Records. All the actors did a great job, including Beyounce. Hell, even though I didn't care for Obsessed, Beyounce's performance was not the reason why. Come to think of it, our boy Idris didn't bring down the house. But basically the script was lousy. So again, I believe much of the disdain for Ms Jay-Z is not connected to her acting ability. I truly don't believe so, or can't understand why. I mean, does she need a little work? Yes. Has a movie flopped because of her performance. NOPE! Was any of her performances a distraction, which caused the movie to be panned by the movie audience, not film "critics". NO WAY. Nuff said.

  • Joseph G. | August 21, 2012 10:40 PMReply

Reading the comments and wondering if this is truly a site for the African Diaspora. She is not as talented as Barbara Streisand? She sounds ghetto? What is wrong with you people.

  • Joseph G. | August 22, 2012 12:55 AM

@ORVILLE I seen the original, so that's info I know. My point is Beyonce has done musical movies before and it was fine. You say Beyonce is not a good actress because you want to. Not because it's a fact. Your opinion should not be confused with fact. Beyonce, sings, acts, dances, and writes. Diana Ross was treated the same way Beyonce is being treated now when it comes to acting. When you are at a certain level of stardom, people will always look for a way to underrate you.

  • Orville | August 22, 2012 12:45 AM

Barbra Streissand was the female lead in the 1976 version of A Star is Born and that version was very successful at the box office. Streisand won an Oscar for writing the song Evergreen. I think the 1976 version of A Star Is Born is probably the most popular version. Beyonce isn't a good actress she's attractive and has crossover appeal but that's it. I am not sure Beyonce can pull it off an incredible performance like Babara did in the 1976 version of the film.

  • LeonRaymond | August 19, 2012 4:59 PMReply

@ AKIMBO You said the words that have been, or should been said. I agree with you 1,000%

"she needs to be in a hardcore acting class...or just to stop. And we know she won't stop, because she wants to be an "icon."

You said what needs to happen.

  • Orville | August 19, 2012 3:39 PMReply

Beyonce isn't a good actress but she is an international superstar with major crossover appeal. But Beyonce isn't Barbra Streisand she's not as talented as Barbra nor can she sing as well as Barbra can. She just doesn't have Babs talent.

  • triy | August 19, 2012 10:36 AMReply

Yeah that's right let's keep hating on each other, the world will be a better place, "Sigh".

  • Joseph G. | August 21, 2012 10:43 PM

Yeah are so bitter and jealous around here. Successful black people do not deserve where they are, according to some of these people. Crabs in a barrel. It's so easy to say someone can not act and not have a valid explanation as to why you feel that way. People say "It's just not believable". It's BS.

  • Melissa | August 19, 2012 9:53 AMReply

Hahahahaha! I liked Beyonce on her first solo MUSIC project but then the media exposure became overkill(as did her music) and there's that small fact that she cannot act or speak in a pleasant manner. I doubt these are the reasons for the rotating leads, but I would personally consider those and I feel sorry for whoever will eventually be the male lead, if it ever comes to fruition. That being said, she is a very hard-working lady and deserves all her riches, no matter my or your opinion on *rump shaking* that passes for dancing. Wish she would just stop being cast, but I guess she is too 'beautiful' and famous to pass up... or... something. *Shrugs*

  • 21 | August 19, 2012 5:57 PM

Beyonce does sound hella ghetto when she speaks.

  • Xi | August 19, 2012 2:00 PM

I think what you mean to say is she has a regional dialect.

  • LeonRaymond | August 19, 2012 1:35 AMReply

Don't even try it, don't even try and justify why they may have all dropped out, all they had to do was look at her filmography and see there was not one decent performance in her whole entire acting career. She's had more chances than most, In Cadillac Records she had a scene that any actors studio student could have nailed, you know the one with Adrien Brody and she blew it bomb the scene down the toilet. Then there is the time factor -this will take a few weeks to a few months and any A-LIST actor is going to have to bring her up to level and sometimes that's exhausting for some one who's ready to rock their scenes. Remember Clint is a one take director Beyonce needs about 8 to just get in character.

They will go down the line until they find an actor who needs the marquee and then they will have their actor but it won't be an A-LIST DUDE!!

She is far worst than J-Lo and I didn't think that was possible

She needs to do stupid over the top comedy's and Rom-Coms with lots of B-List actors like a film with Tara Reid would be better for her. She is just not an actor and does not want to put in the work other wise she would be far better even outstanding by now and that has not happened.

Oh and I know what your thinking , why not be in TP'S films well that's a big risk cause what happens if she is overshadowed by one his actors or blow out of scene by a TP actor , it would be a wrap

Her Ego is far too big she wants the huge film with the huge stars in it and the huge Hollywood budget.

  • Joseph G. | August 21, 2012 10:46 PM

You have no idea how many takes it takes her. When you not speaking from proof, it's usually just jealous banter. It sounds like you just have a problem with singers who become actresses.

  • noel | August 19, 2012 8:22 PM

Sting like a bee, you are in denial to believe Beyonce posses an iota of talent. All actresses you mentioned in their weakness have far more acting talent than Beyonce. Even Rihanna has more chances of being a movie star before Beyonce. Being a bey fan doesn't permit blindess

  • Nadine | August 19, 2012 6:30 PM

    J. Lo did the work and got better... MUCH better. Beyonce, IF doing the work, is (offensively) not getting better. That is why she is disgusting to me. She fulfills every low expectation.

  • Nadine | August 19, 2012 6:16 PM

Beyonce is a disgrace to acting. J. Lo has way more skills than Beyonce.... who has none.

  • Sting like a Bee | August 19, 2012 6:06 PM

No you didn't say she was worse than J.Lo...you MUST be smoking on something. I admit that Beyonce isn't the best actress in the world, but she sure as hell can act way better than Kristen Stewart, J.Lo, Jessica (Biel and Alba) and even Scarlett Johansson. If these ladies can have successful movie careers with her mediocre acting skills, then so can Beyonce.

  • Akimbo | August 19, 2012 11:19 AM

I agree that Beyonce is not an actor, but all these guys signed on KNOWING who she was & that she was attached, so there's obviously some other reason for the revolving door. Scheduling, perhaps? I mean, has a start date been announced? All these people have other shit to do. And on the ego thing, I'm sure she's got a healthy one, but she never acts like it, so I don't get where you're coming from with that. You don't go from Austin Powers to Dreamgirls to...Madea. For Colored Girls excepted, is stuff is a stepping stone, a means to stay relevant, or a money-grab. She doesn't need to "work her way up" to this starring role; she needs to be in a hardcore acting class...or just to stop. And we know she won't stop, because she wants to be an "icon."

  • SoWhat | August 19, 2012 8:40 AM

Her ego is big because she's one of the biggest stars in the world and is sitting on more cash than you can imagine exists...your silly words will change none of that.

  • Bohemian princess | August 18, 2012 8:17 PMReply

This movie is like the murderer in a horror flick. It...won't...die.

  • THE BLACK POLICE | August 18, 2012 6:51 PMReply

LOL @ "do they fear that the role will be overshadowed by Beyonce". Maybe they are afraid of her stinky breath (that used to be the rumor about her back in the day)? Or the fact that she cant act...

  • bondgirl | August 18, 2012 6:09 PMReply

A revolving list of leads for a film doesn't automatically mean it's a bad script or an actor's lack of desire to work together. Often it's scheduling, pay offer, politics (actor hating the studio exec working on film/slept with producer's ex) Many great films have had troubling casting (The Godfather, Fisher King, Silence of the Lambs), and many bad films have as well. This could be something simple as PR, since he has a film coming out, and it keeps his name in the blogosphere.

  • Jai | August 18, 2012 5:29 PMReply

Bradley Cooper is not that desperate.

  • tamara | August 20, 2012 12:15 PM

Well he did that "Hit & Run" film with those God-awful dred locs in his head...

  • ojie king | August 18, 2012 5:14 PMReply

idris Elba is the ideal male lead for this. He exudes that roughness that this character requires. Bradley is too smooth. Tom is short and looks even shorter compared to Beyonce, imagine him carrying her playfully, Russel maybe. For me, it should be idris or Will. Will also has that rough around the edges look that the character requires.

  • ALM | August 19, 2012 4:58 PM

@ Orville: I like both Tyler and Idris, but I don't think the Alex Cross role went to Tyler because of his box office success. The role change was Hollywood politics plain and simple. After working on "Daddy's Little Girls with Tyler, Idris questioned the quality of Tyler's work in the media. Tyler took a hit to his ego and decided to "show" Idris by securing the Alex Cross role. It's messed up, but unfortunately this is the way that much of Hollywood (and corporate America for that matter) works.

  • Orville | August 19, 2012 3:41 PM

@OJIE King, Idris Elba also isn't a star he's never had a box office hit on his own. Elba is a television actor with occasional supporting roles in Hollywood films. Look at the Alex Cross movie the studio went with Tyler Perry instead of Idris because they know Perry has box office success and Elba doesn't.

  • Me | August 18, 2012 12:20 PMReply

TBH, I highly doubt they don't want to work with Beyonce. The movie has a few high profile producers and Clint directing, so I'm sure it will turn out at LEAST watchable. It's a musical so I'm sure Bey will do her thing. I think the problem may be, especially since Tom dropped out, even though some sources say he is still attached, that the movie IS a musical and not only that a remake that has been done 2-3 times previously. It could be hard to market especially after the bomb that was "Rock Of Ages", which had Tom attached. Russell left the project after Beyonce initially dropped out and the movie lost funding, then Clint got the project again. I think Russell was the only one every SERIOUSLY attached to the film, but that was a long time ago.

  • sergio | August 18, 2012 12:42 PM

Actually it's been made 4 times previously believe it or not. Same story (with some variations) but different titles

  • ALM | August 18, 2012 10:54 AMReply

@ Sergio. You read my mind. A couple of these guys may be a little mature to be considered her counterpart, i.e. Tom Cruise and Russell Crowe. For the rest of the men, why have so many actors already dropped out of the project? It's going to be high profile (with Eastwood directing), so what's the issue?

  • Queen G | August 18, 2012 4:09 PM

@ Lisa, you're right but that never stopped Chris Hemsworth from starring opposite Kristen Stewart in "Snow White and the Huntsman." Besides, Leo Dicaprio is the only guy I like from the aforementioned group of douchebags. I personally think Hugh Jackman would be a great pick, considering that he has Broadway experience and has worked with Beyonce in the past.

  • Lisa | August 18, 2012 2:03 PM

I love Beyonce, but she can't act and these male leads know that, so Clint Eastwood or not, she's the reason. It's hard to play opposite with someone who isn't up to par.
