With the recent announcement of developments with its 2011-12 productions, Dezenove Som e Imagens has established itself as one of the fastest-rising production houses in Brazil.

Moving Creatures, the multi-layered Dezenove drama from first-time director Caetano Gotardo, has been acquired by Paris-based Urban Distribution International, after wrapping production Sept. 4.

Juliana Rojas and Marco Dutra, directors of Cannes 2011 Un Certain Regard entry Hard Labor, are currently developing Good Manners, a horror flick centered on a nurse who takes in an orphaned baby with "peculiar" physical traits. The film is scheduled to shoot in late 2012.

Now in post-production, Dezenove's Once Upon a Time Veronica, on which UDI also has international rights, centers on a young doctor who is worried about her seeming inability to fall in love as she senses her youth slipping away.

Veronica , the eagerly awaited new film from Marcelo Gomes (Cinema, Aspirins and Vultures), underscores a new confidence in Brazilian cinema which, though grounding its stories in specific locales -- here, Recife -- is not afraid to tackle global malaise.

The film is "a portrait of young people the world over, not just in Recife," Gomes said.
