Theater producer Elizabeth I. McCann has acquired the rights to the Lynn Nottage Off -Broadway play By The Way, Meet Vera Stark.

The satire, starring Sanaa Lathan, tells the journey of a black maid and actress in Hollywood's "Golden Age" and her relationship with her white employer who is also an actress. Conflict arises when both land roles in the same Southern production.

Producer McCann is reportedly contacting investors and hoping to bring it to Broadway in 2012.

Interesting. I saw it at 2nd Stages and thought it was pretty decent. The cast was excellent but the second half of the play was definitely weaker than the first half. I wonder how much of the original cast will they be able to bring back.

I thought it was on Broadway. Anyway, congrats for Sanaa. No one should play that part but her. 40 reasons to love her, lol.

I would love to see this on Broadway! I just hope they don't go with some no-name actress. Maybe Nicole Beharie can reprise the role if Sanaa's not avail?
