Expendables 2 director Simon West is reportedly eyeing Angelina JolieCameron Diaz and Milla Jovovich for an all-female spin-off of the The Expendables franchise, telling E! Online, "I like the idea of the Expenda-Belles where it's seven or eight women mercenaries. It would be Angelina Jolie, Cameron Diaz, Milla Jovovich, the list goes on. Helen Mirren, Jamie Lee Curtis would be great... It would be running parallel. They would meet up and then they would fight and they would join up and save each other."

Our man Terry Crews, who plays Hale Caesar in the Expendables movies was vocal with his support of the idea, adding "I would love to see Charlize Theron. She would be a sweet badass just doing some crazy stuff!"

Now while this is all probably just wishful thinking, don't be too surprised if we eventually post an announcement on the development of an Expenda-Belles movie, as Simon West put it. I actually think that would be a hot ticket; fans would probably eat it up for what it is.

But, damn, I'm looking at West list all the actresses he'd like to have in the film, as well as Terry Crews' own choice, and I'm thinking, not one sistah is mentioned! Alright, so maybe I'm jumping the gun a bit, because you'd think that if this movie were ever made, they'd surely include at least one black Expenda-Belle in the group, right?

My question to you is, as the title of this post states, what would your Expenda-Belles lineup of actresses look like? Who would make up your list of 8 or 9?

Maybe this will assist... I was reminded of the above fan-created poster when the first Expendables movie was released in 2010; the creator imagines what could actually be a hell of an idea is if Sylvester Stallone and company opted to expand the franchise, and made it strictly with the cast below, or as some kind of co-ed action/thriller.

Any takers? Vivica Fox ("Copperhead” from Kill Bill Vol. 1) in the Terry Crews role works for me :)

But take your stab at it on this start to the weekend... heck, you can even make it an all-black cast, a mix of the young and older.

Laughing at people choosing Grier. I love the woman, but she's way too old and out of shape.

Arnold is now a fat fuck, Sly is a melty-faced 'roidhead, and the cast is mostly washed-up action stars; Pam is just fine for inclusion in the female version.

I'd really really love to see that movie but I guess since all these ladies are Alisters unlike the expendables it could only happen for a charity event or smt.
Angelina Jolie is the ultimate action heroine. In 2012 let's get her back in her Tomb Raider boots. Plz like the page:

Most of picks for Black actresses with action cred have been picked. I go with Gina Torres, Naomi Harris, Vivica A. Fox, and Angela Bassett. Will add on Queen Latifah and Halle Berry the list.

Co-signing Rutina Wesley and Michelle Rodriguez. Also, Antonia Thomas ('Misfits') would be awesome. And someone will probably bring up Meagan Good, so lemme just say right now - nawl.

  • Lovesfilmnmusic | August 17, 2012 10:51 AMReply

Angela Bassett (she kicked ass in Strange Days), Naomi Harris, Pam Grier, Rutina Wesley, Zoe Saldana, J. Nicole Brooks (she kicks much ass do your research), Gugu MBatha Raw, N'Bushe Wright, Danai Gurira. You've got older, younger, famous, less famous and all Kiss Ass Chicks.

We need more films w Black Women kicking ass.

The whole thing with the Expendables is that it's a bunch of washed up action stars, plus B-movie star Jason Statham, and random Terry Crews (who just gets in where he fits in). Few of the women mentioned fit that; it's not about folk who can still successfully helm a studio action movie alone. We're looking more at Linda Hamilton, Pam Grier, Linda Carter, Michelle Yeoh, Lucy Lawless, maybe they could swing still-relevant Sigourney Weaver for a cameo. Maybe Carrie Ann Moss, Gina Torres, or Sarah Michelle Gellar (though she prob thinks she's too good), too. Milla Jovovich, Michelle Rodriguez for the Statham-level B-action stars. As for the Terry Crews-like wild cards? Um...Jada Pinkett-Smith? Vivica for sure. Aunjaunue Ellis, maybe? I would die and buy all the tickets if Vanessa L Williams was included somehow.

Considering it's now been greenlit I suspect West's wishlist are going to be more favoured than some of the names being brought up here and on other forums and websites. The double standards in casting boils down to the fact that Stallone, Arnie and Bruce Willis alone were amongst the top tier of box office draws 20 or so years ago....something Sigourney Weaver, outside of Ripley, or Pam Grier after blaxploitation faded never were so even if they end up in the picture they will strictly be kept in supporting/cameo roles. I believe there will be a push for the likes of Jolie to headline the movie.

  • Luce | August 17, 2012 12:26 PM

Yes ! I'm seconding your list. Linda Hamilton, Sigourney Weaver, Pam Grier, Michelle Yeoh. Helen Mirren could actually take a similar role to Schwarzenegger. As for Willis', why not Vivica Fox. And for my wild card, Naomie Harris.

  • Gator Bell | August 17, 2012 10:33 AMReply

Naomie Harris, Tracey Thoms, Michelle Rodriguez, Zoey Bell(Death Race), Moon Bloodgood, Michelle Yeoh, Sigourney Weaver....

"Alright, so maybe I'm jumping the gun a bit, because you'd think that if this movie were ever made, they'd surely include at least one black Expenda-Belle in the group, right?" - Ask the writers of "Sucker Punch" (2011). Not a given and if so... barely any attention will be given to the character in the script.
