I mean that. Does anyone really care anymore about them? And I'm not just talking about black people. I mean ANYONE? Black, white, male, female, gay, straight, Christian, Jew, Muslim. Anyone who thinks that the Oscars are still that important, raise your hands.

Oscar nominations were announced earlier and The Help scored well getting a "Best Picture" nomination as well as garnering a "Best Actress" nomination for Viola Davis and "Best Supporting Actress" for Octavia Spencer.

Well, here ya go... another year, another NAACP Image Awards event. And as expected, there's lots of chatter about the noms list on social networking sites where you'll find plenty of exclamations like: "Really?" & "WTF?" & "Awww Heeell no!" & "GTFO!" & "Is the NAACP still even relevant?" & one of my personal faves, "Just. No!" :)

Congrats to Ghanaian American filmmaker Akosua Adoma, whose feature-length experimental film about a promiscuous Ghanaian hairdresser, was one of 23 filmmakers to be selected to receive a Creative Capital 2012 grant in Film/Video.

The Golden Globe Awards ceremony takes place this Sunday night here in the USA; but across the pond, in France, the 17th annual Lumière awards - essentially the French equivalent of the Golden Globes, as foreign press based in France select the best in French cinema - were handed out today; and, of note, amongst the names and titles on the list of honorees, our man Omar Sy, and the film he stars in, Intouchables, as well as Aki Kaurismäki's French immigration dramedy Le Havre, were all nominees up for trophies.
