The 8th Annual Bahamas International Film Festival announced its winners last night at a ceremony held at the Atlantis Resort in Paradise Island. As I mentioned in my previous post today, Zoe Kravitz was in attendance to accept the Rising Star Award.

With the release and success of his 2011 comedy film Anuvahood, which he co-wrote and co-directed, British actor Adam Deacon is poised to become a formidable force on the British film scene. The Hackney, North-East London native-- who's also of Moroccan descent-- was recently named to the longlist for BAFTA's Orange Wednesdays Rising Star Award 2012, and could use your votes.

3 films we've covered quite a lot here on S&A are nominated and up for awards for this year's British Independent Film Awards: Steve McQueen's Shame (7 nominations, including Best British Independent Film, Best Director (Steve McQueen), Best Actor (Michael Fassbender), Best Supporting Actress (Carey Mulligan), Best Screenplay (Abi Morgan, Steve McQueen) & Best Technical Achievement (Joe Walker – Editing & Sean Bobbitt – Cinematography); Richard Ayoade's Submarine (5 nominations including Douglas Hickox Award for Best Debut Director, Best Screenplay (Richard Ayoade), Best Supporting Actress (Sally Hawkins) & Most Promising Newcomer (Yasmin Paige & Craig Roberts)); and Joe Cornish's Attack The Block (2 including Most Promising Newcomer (John Boyega), and the Douglas Hickox Award for Best Debut Director (Joe Cornish)).

Ghanaian director Leila Djansi's  Ties That Bind, a film we've written about a number of times, which stars Kimberly Elise, Nollywood star Omotola Jalade and Ghanaian actress Ama K Abebrese, has topped this year's Ghana Movie Awards nominations with a total of 21 nominations including Best Picture, Best Story and Best Editing.
