As expected, The Dark Knight Rises beat the action packed (but PG-13 tame), tedious and totally devoid of personality (compared to Paul Verhoeven's 1990 original) Total Recall, without a doubt, one of the least neccessary remakes in recent memory.

The opening night of the London Olympics took a huge bite of the box office Friday especially on The Dark Knight Rises.

Because of the Colorado shooting tragedy on early Friday morning, most box office trackers, as well as Warner Bros, announced that they would not report the weekend's box office take on Sunday afternoon as usual, but would postpone it until Monday.

To get the obvious stuff out of the way first, Ice Age: Continental Drift was No. 1 as expected, with The Amazing Spider Man in second place. Ted is still very strong on its way to, perhaps, becoming the biggest grossing R rated comedy ever; and Magic Mike is still doing quite well attracting a large female audience (and gay men as well according to a recent article in  the New York Times).

No surprise that The Amazing Spider Man was No. 1 this weekend and that Seth MacFarlane's rude comedy Ted held up pretty strong for the second place.

I'd say that the big story this weekend is how well Tyler Perry's Madea's Witness Protection did at the box office, with its predominantly Caucasian cast - a rarity for a Madea movie.

Despite the fact that it got disappointing reviews, calling it the weakest Pixar entry since Cars (and maybe even weaker than that), Brave (a film I admit I couldn't even feign an interest in watching, like curling) was, no surprise, the No. 1 film this weekend, and is expected to do extremely well at the box office like all other Pixar films.

This weekend's new entries - Rock of Ages, and the Adam Sandler comedy, That's My Boy - both performed way below exceptations, which allowed Madagascar 3 and Prometheus (despite the film's big B.O. drop), to both stay in the No. 1 and 2 positions this weekend.

Of course the final figures won't come out until Sunday afternoon as usual, but if things hold up as expected Prometheus is going to take a massive hit at the box office this weekend dropping over 70%
