Since Christmas it’s been a three way battle between Les Miserables, Django Unchained and The Hobbit, with Les Miz coming out in front at first. Then The Hobbit raced up to the front position, while Django and Les Miz were battling out, tooth and nail, neck and neck, for second place.

There were a lot of box office disappointments this weekend. Both Jack Reacher and This is 40 surprisingly under-performed, and The Guilt Trip just bombed (Maybe because it looked really annoying and predictable).

Holdovers are still holding solid with Skyfall jumping back up to the No.1 slot this weekend. The film is now officially the biggest grossing film in the U.K. beating the previous record holder Avatar.

It's almost guaranteed that animated films, even mediocre ones, do extremely well at the box office. Well almost guaranteed.  There are some that don't. Recent case in point: Dreamworks Animation's latest film Rise of the Guardians.

Do I have to tell you what the number one film was this weekend? What’s the point? Grossing $141 million ($71 million of that just on Friday alone - the sixth largest opening ever), it’s so easy to mock those sparkling vampires movies and the people who love them. But this time I’ll be on my best behavior, for a rare change, and not say anything.
