Holdovers are still holding solid with Skyfall jumping back up to the No.1 slot this weekend. The film is now officially the biggest grossing film in the U.K. beating the previous record holder Avatar.

It's almost guaranteed that animated films, even mediocre ones, do extremely well at the box office. Well almost guaranteed.  There are some that don't. Recent case in point: Dreamworks Animation's latest film Rise of the Guardians.

Do I have to tell you what the number one film was this weekend? What’s the point? Grossing $141 million ($71 million of that just on Friday alone - the sixth largest opening ever), it’s so easy to mock those sparkling vampires movies and the people who love them. But this time I’ll be on my best behavior, for a rare change, and not say anything.

After 50 years on screen, James Bond can still pull them in. Skyfall grossed nearly $88 million this weeknd in its U.S. opening. It's far and away the biggest opening ever for a Bond film

First of all, keep in mind that, because of Hurricane Sandy, the box office totals for this weekend are somewhat lower overall. Having said that, not surprisingly, Disney's animated film Wreck-It-Ralph lead the field with $49 million.

Argo jumped ahead to the No.1 slot this weekend, in what was pretty much a weak weekend for films, grossing $12.3 million, for a total to date of almost $61 million.
