Writer/director/actress Esosa Edosomwan, whose short film work has been featured on S&A in the past (her last effort, 50 Bucks In Argentina, screened at the 2011 Cannes Film Festival in the Short Film Corner) is working on her feature film directorial debut - a project called One Night In Brooklyn, describe as, "a coming of age comedy about a group of twenty-something Brooklyn Bohemians on the night of a TransAfrican Independence Day party."

While in retrospect, the films of the Blaxploitation era provided us with many cringe-worthy moments, they did contribute two things that can be viewed as positive. Black actors got work. And it was abundantly clear not only that Black was beautiful, but it was damn sexy to boot!

So... the first quarter of 2012 has come to an end, and as I like to do from time to time, let's take a look at how we've done so far this year; and by that I mean, how black films released in theaters (in the USA) during the first 3 months of the year, fared.
