In anticipation to the Sundance Film Festival, which runs this upcoming January 19-29, Sundance.org released a video earlier today called Meet The Artists '12: Ava Duvernay, in which our much celebrated, and rightly so African American Film Releasing Movement (AFFRM) founder talks about her inspiration for getting into filmmaking and provides a few details on her new film Middle of Nowhere, which has been accepted into the festival's U.S. dramatic feature film competition lineup.

Amongst 4 new titles the Sundance Film Festival announced earlier today as part of its 2012 lineup is an indie dramedy titled Predisposed, which Tracy Morgan stars in, along with Melissa Leo, Jesse Eisenberg, and Isiah Whitlock Jr.

Roger Ebert Names "Kinyarwanda" To His Top 11 Films of 2011 List

Roger Ebert named Alrick Brown's Kinyarwanda on his Top 11 Films of 2011 list, along with other choices such as Tree of Life, A Separation and Shame. Ebert said that Borwn's film shook him "deeply" and that it is a film of "great emotional impact."

This is one film that I'm really curious about and hope to see sooner than later. Despite S&A reader reactions to it when I first profiled the film (mostly negative if I recall correctly), I'm intrigued by the subject matter, and the fact that reactions from from those I know who have seen it have been quite polarizing makes it even more enticing. I love it when a film divides passionate audiences.

The 18th Slamdance Film Festival, which runs from Jan. 20-26 in Park City, Utah, will showcase 18 feature length films - 10 narrative films and 8 documentaries - culled from 5,000 submission, from first-time directors in its feature competition programs.

Scrubbing through the list of titles that came with this morning's announcement of the Slamdance 2012 lineup as promised, I came across this... a feature film titled Welcome To Pine Hill, made in collaboration with the Brooklyn Filmmakers Collective, a group which writer/director Keith Miller (a name I wasn't familiar with before today) belongs.
