Negro: A Docu-Series About Latino Identity, a documentary by Dash Harris, is currently raising funds through gofundme. Through donations from family and friends, Harris has been able to produce the first part of the series; in which he travels to the Dominican Republic and Colombia to speak to African descendants of various towns in both countries. Having seen the compelling first part, which I embedded below, the documentary also speaks about the Hispanic/Latino communities in general, and the racism, colorism and classism unfortunately prominent in Latin America.

The much talked about NC-17 rated Steve McQueen's Shame, has just released a very interesting new trailer to the song "New York, New York," sang by Carey Mulligan's troubled Sissy character, Michael Fassbender's sister in the film.

Famed director Melvin Van Peebles, who knows his share of controversy, decided to lend his support to the Occupy Wall Street Movement.  His 1971 song "Love That's America," from his first Hollywood film Watermelon Man, has been used with various OWS promotional videos circulating on the web now.  The latest one, below, is by Cypher Films.

New York filmmaker Dana Verde's resume goes back to 1998. She completed her B.A. in Media Studies/Screenwriting from New School University in 2002. In years 2003 and 2004, Verde was a finalist at the Sundance Screenwriters Lab. She also attended London Film School in the UK. Verde's inspiration comes from the likes of filmmakers Darren Aronosky, Woody Allen and Martin Scorsese.
