AFFRM's ARRAY Takes Neil Drumming's Nostalgic 'Big Words' - Its 6th Acquisition

I'm glad that Neil Drumming's indie dramedy charmer Big Words isn't an orphan any longer, with ARRAY, the multi-platform distribution label of AFFRM (the African American Film Festival Releasing Movement), announcing today that it's acquired all US distribution rights to the Slamdance 2013 Official Selection, in a deal negotiated by Gordon Bobb of Del, Shaw, Moonves, Tanaka, Finkelstein & Lezcano on behalf of AFFRM, with producer Matthew Keene Smith.

As I reported back in February, filmmaker and programmer-in-residence Amir George of Chicago's Black Cinema House, and Los Angeles based filmmaker curator Erin Christovale, are jointly presenting a screening of short films they call Black Radical Imagination next week.

A film that we've been following since its debut at the London Lesbian and Gay Film Festival a year ago, titled Stud Life, the debut feature film from award-winning Brit film-maker Campbell X, is now available to USA audiences courtesy of Wolfe Video/On Demand, the largest exclusive distributor of LGBT films.

Since it made its broadcast TV premiere last night on PBS, which was apparently the first time a lot of you saw the film, here's the interview I did with the directors of the film last November, after I saw it at a press screening here in New York, before its limited theatrical run. Based on the number of clicks and comments to that original post, very few of you actually read the interview, so I'm reposting it, along with my interview with the CP5 (posted earlier today). And if you missed last night's broadcast, The Central Park Five is now available on iTunes and Amazon.com as a VOD rental or purchase, and will be on DVD/Bluray next week Tuesday.

Rwandan filmmaker Kivu Ruhorahoza, whose first film, Grey Matter (aka Matière Grise), made its debut at the 2011 installment of the Tribeca Film Festival here in New York City, and was later selected for the touring Global Lens 2012 series, has long begun work on his second feature, Jomo, which was selected for the Rotterdam CineMart last year, out of 465 entries, where it was presented to 850 potential co-financiers during the event.

I predict that Wesley Snipes is going to make a major comeback. Why not? He’s a good actor (even great in the right part), has tremendous presence on the screen and he’s been gone for so long that there’s a real hunger to see him back again.
