It's been over 2 years since I saw Venus Noire (Black Venus) at the New York Film Festival in the fall of 2010, and it's never received a Stateside release; actually I'm not sure it got much of a release outside of the international film festival circuit and a few European territories either.

The age-old story on a stalled film adaptation of August Wilson's award-winning play Fences is that, the playwright insisted to the studio (Paramount Pictures at the time - this was in the late 1980s) that the director of the film be black.
