Considered a landmark of non-fiction film, Shirley Clarke's Portrait Of Jason (a film I first saw in a rare screening at in NYC 2 +years ago, from a not-so good print) is, as the title suggests, a portrait of Jason Holliday (real name: Aaron Payne) - a flamboyant, charismatic cabaret performer.

Films with stories that center on female circumcision (female genital mutilation) in/from Sub-Saharan African countries are probably far more common (here in the USA anyway) than those that tell stories of male circumcision, and the health dangers that accompany that rite.

Filmming has wrapped in Cape Town, South Africa on the new South African family feature film, Felix! which features an all-star cast that includes Joburg-born Oscar-nominee Dame Janet Suzman in her first South African film; South African Film and Television Award (SAFTA) Best Actress winner Linda Sokhulu in her feature film debut; and newcomer Hlayani Mabasa, who was cast in the title role from over 400 auditions across the country.

You'll recall Austrian filmmaker Ulrich Seidl’s Paradise franchise of films, which follows 3 individual though interconnected stories of 3 women in love in 3 different locations, which will be released as three separate feature films, instead of 1 -  Paradise: Love, Paradise: Faith and Paradise: Hope. The franchise was picked up for USA distribution by Strand Releasing, with a 2013 debut for all three films planned, starting in the first quarter.
