"Walking Dead" Producer On Why He Cast Danai Gurira As Michonne + Says Rutina Wesley Wasn't In Contention

By now I think we all know that Danai Gurira  has been cast as Michonne in AMC's hit zombie drama series The Walking Dead, and we should see a lot of her in season 3 (we hope), after her brief hooded intro towards the end of last night's season 2 finale of the show!

We last posted about this film back in April of last year, when Cynthia reported that Keke Palmer would star in the upcoming Nickelodeon TV film Rags, produced by Nick Cannon, directed by Billy Woodruff (Honey) and scored by Rodney Jerkins.

Sunday night's season two finale of the AMC network's zombie/horror/drama series The Walking Dead broke all ratings records, becoming not only the most watched episode in the history of the series, but also currently the highest rated drama on basic cable, according to the Nielsen Company.

I haven't watched it yet (it aired this evening) - the season finale of AMC's hit zombie drama series The Walking Dead, one of the few shows on TV that I actually watch religiously; after the show, on AMC's Walking Dead talk show, Talking Dead, the series' executive producer, Robert Kirkman, revealed some casting news that I know a lot of you folks have been anxious for, if past posts on the series are any indication.

Like all of you, I was very happy when it was announced that Tulane professor, writer, social and cultural critic and media pundit Melissa Harris-Perry, after paying her dues and showing she's got the right stuff with her regular appearances on MSNBC (even acting as a substitute host on several shows), was getting her own morning weekend show on the network. Here was a smart, intelligent (and let's be honest, very cute) sister getting a chance to dazzle everyone with her knowledge and intelligence, joining Tamron Hall's daily afternoon show on the network.
